We survived the "Great Flood of 2016"! We are part of 15% of Livingston Parish that did not flood - yes the other 85% of this parish (county) flooded. We tried to leave Saturday and head east to Walker, LA and LA 1024 was flooded over at 2pm Saturday. Our Wal-Mart in Watson, LA which is between the Amite River and LA 16 had the parking lot flooded and no one could get to the store - though the store did not flood. Less than 2 blocks south of Wal-Mart on LA 16, the road was completely under water and closed. And before we tried to leave Saturday we saw this video on YT of my girl's high school which is 2 miles North of us on LA 16:

Before we went thru the whole ordeal of putting everything we had higher up in case it did flood and packed clothes in suitcases. Just to turn around and come back home. We had power the whole time but once we returned back at 3-4pm, the cable and internet were both out. We've spent the last 7 days watching VHS tapes and DVD's and a small portable HDTV that can get only 3 Baton Rouge channels (WBRZ - ABC, WBRZ news, WBRZ weather) in 5-10 minute increments only - then I would lose the signal. Internet and TV just restored today (7 days later).

I found these video clips on YT, that will give you an idea of whats going on:

3:14 mark is Florida Blvd/US 190 thru Denham Springs, LA
5:10 mark you see a dollar tree sign in the air, that street is LA 16 about 6-7 miles south of me
5:57 is our Bass Pro Shops under water
8:08 - 8:34 is I-12 where the interstate crosses over the Amite river between Denham Springs and Baton Rouge
8:58 is Team Toyota (Baton Rouge, LA) underwater
11:45 is Florida Blvd - Baton Rouge side of Amite river
12:03 railroad tracks underwater - I used to live in that subdivision (1996-2005) to the left of the tracks before moving to Denham Springs/Watson

THIS IS NOT EVEN 2 BLOCKS SOUTH OF Wal-Mart on LA 16 FROM WHERE I LIVE! I travel this road everyday!

rescues at the Walker,LA La Quinta hotel

the next day - water recedes

Welcome back!  Does this mean your internet is working again or did you figure out how to post here from work?

Welcome back bro.

A gentle reminder to us all.  For all the collecting we do, there is nothing more valuable than our health and our lives, and those of our fellow people.  Things can be replaced.  People cannot.

You are a lucky man AF to be in that 15%.  Buy a lottery ticket if you can!

I just made a donation to the Red Cross, who have a Louisiana Flood Relief fund.  I would encourage everyone here who can help out to do the same.  Give up buying one item this month and help out our friends in LA!

 Yes and amen!

And now its 10% from the latest I've heard - so 90% of Livingston Parish has flooded.

Lotto tix might be a good idea.

Glad you're alright, AF!  Hope you're able to watch ArenaBowl next weekend.  (Go Soul!)

Cool......I forgot all about that! I need to see what day, time, and channel is on. Did watch part of the Saints game last night after work.

This gives you a good idea of how much of Livingston parish went under...... I'm north of Denham Springs (far left in pic) off of this map and the Amite river divides Denham and Baton Rouge.

Thanks to ESPN College GameDay and Tom Rinaldi for continuing to tell the story of historic flooding and LSU's role in recovery efforts in south Louisiana.
