This game was placed in the last Retro Junk box by Rowsdower70 (Thank you, sir!)

I finally took the time to really play it, and thought I'd give my impression here.

The game itself is labeled as #17 of 20, and signed by Joe Grisaffi (one of the designers and director of the film) and was made in 2013. I have not seen the film this game is based on, but it appears to be available for free on-line, and I'm going to check it out. I also don't know if only 20 copies of this cartridge were created. If so, that's a shame, as the game is really good. It came with a manual which is simple and well done.

The game has a really nice opening screen with great music. You start as a naked guy who has to find his armor. Once you find it, you can use your sword to hack up 4 victims that you have to search for. Each time you kill a victim, a policeman is spawned. They shoot you, and you are unable to kill them. After the 4th victim is killed, the goal becomes to find a character named "Marla" and drag her into a castle. Once inside, you must defeat a Boss Queen by shooting away at her shields and then the queen herself.

The game reminds me a lot of "Haunted House" -- lots of searching and exploring, while avoiding the bad guys as best you can. I think it's really a lot of fun. It makes you want to keep playing until you can defeat at least one boss. The graphics are great, and there's no flicker at all.

    RickR's final grade: A

Anyone else have more info on this game, or an opinion on the gameplay?

Everytime I hear someone say that ET on the 2600 is the worst game ever, I have to cringe.  The game may not be perfect but, given the time he had to work on it, it is not a bad game.  I have always enjoyed playing it, despite the issue with the pits.  I think people just didn't read the instructions and had no clue what they were doing when they played it.

I found E.T. to be one of the first adventure games where you had to pay attention to what you were doing.  It could have used a little bit more work in the collision detection area but what was done in 5-6 weeks was astounding!  It is also the only movie-based game that I have played that is true to the movie.  This is more than I can say for NES movie-to-game ports.  Warshaw did an awesome job and deserves and award for his programming talents.  Long live E.T. the video game!

Recently I added a few neat things to my collection, including a copy of Play Meter from 1980.  This one is the annual Buyer's Guide issue, featuring all the coin-op arcade games and amusements (pinball, video, table games, wall games, cocktail tables, jukeboxes, and even kiddie rides) then available on the market. As I understand it, Play Meter was not available to general consumers -- only to game manufacturers, distributors, arcade operators, and people in the industry. It's missing six pages, but is otherwise in great (if a bit fragile) condition.

It includes a number of cool full-page full-color advertisements, like these:

San Diego, CA (March 7, 2017) Atari®, one of the world’s most recognized publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, and IDW Games, announced today that they have entered into a partnership to produce a line of tabletop games based on several classic Atari videogame titles. Centipede®, Asteroids®, and Missile Command® are all headed to the tabletop by way of Jon Gilmour, co-designer of Dead of Winter, and his hand-picked crew of up-and-coming co-developers.   Set to capture the feel of these classic titles, the Atari line of board games are fun, intense and fast-paced. While each game in the series will play differently from the others, they will all have you nostalgic for the days of being hunched over a CRT in a dark arcade with your eyes on the prize: top of the high-score chart.

"Atari is one of the hallmarks of our generation," says Jerry Bennington, VP of New Product Development. "We're honored with the opportunity to be able to bring the Atari classic archive to the tabletop."

“IDW Games has a fantastic history of bringing licensed products to market, and we’re thrilled to work out a partnership and see our classic games on the tabletop,” says Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari.

The Atari series of games will launch with Centipede in the Fall of 2017 with future titles releasing intermittently shortly after.

    Hi,

GRay Defender here.  I was born and raised here in San Bernardino, CA.  I played the early games in the arcade growing up and my first real gaming console was the Atari 2600.  From there I moved on to the Commodore 64, but before I let my mom sell off my 2600, I held onto the three games carts that I treasured the most at the time.  They were Adventure, Missile Command and Mountain King.  I fairly recently got back into video games and collecting.  Other than video games & consoles, I also love classic radios with cassette tape players, etc.  I also collect some vintage calculators, something about that phosphorus.

I guess last year I started my small youtube channel which goes by my moniker.

Looking forward to meeting you all over time,

    Glenn
