I was more amazed how decent the RF output was from this 7800 after I got it back and running again. My daily driver has never looked that good on a flat panel through RF so this one is quite nice.

For the life of me I could not remember how a friend of mine and myself spent so much time with this game and accumulated what seemed like an endless stream of cash and cars.  I finally figured it out.  I remember now.
GT2 gives first place drivers a new car in the more advanced races.  If you find a race early on that gives a decent amount of cash plus a car with a decent value you can repeat the event, accumulate cash, and sell off all the prize cars to build up credits.  It's time consuming but a great way to build up credits for better cars or to hop up cars already in your garage.

Normally, I would have to agree with you.  That was my thoughts when I first seen one.  I didn't understand the, I guess logic or theory, behind its design. But the more I looked at it the more it grew on me.  The more I've used it the more I've come to like it.  I like the NES but the games I enjoy playing most I can't find cheap.  The Famicom gave me a cheap alternative option.  I like the AV Famicom a whole lot more than the 2nd Gen NES.  I never liked that hump. I wanted the AV Fami but the price difference between it and the original Fami was $50.  I gave $20 for my Fami which I didn't think was all that bad.  But it was the games I was after that sealed the deal.

I own an AV Famicom, which is the Japanese equivalent to the 2nd generation NES that was released in the United States with the "dog bone" NES control pad, the exception being that the Japanese AV Famicom lacked the "hump" the US version had to support the substantially larger cartridges, and the AV Famicom had terrific AV output for a nice picture. @MaximumRD may recall a video I used to have giving an overview of this system on my old YouTube channel.
I never understood the aesthetic appeal of the original Famicom. The games are absolute classics, and the Disk System is really neat, but I've never liked the styling of the original Famicom. The red and white are very, very ugly to me, beyond unattractive. It looks like a cheap toy, and the white plastic looks cheap, gets dirty and turns yellow. I can see why Atari engineers were going to rebody the Famicom, likely in the Atari 2600 Jr. shell. I've preferred owning the original North American NES, and the 2nd generation AV Famicom from Japan.

Very cool. As far as real hardware I do not own a Famicom, I DO have one of those adapters you can use plug plug a Famicom cart into a NES or compatible system, that said I only have a  single Famicom cart at that itself is a cheapo knockoff multicart with mostly bad titles 😆I guess another option is using my original Nintendo or my Retrobit RetroTrio clone (it plays NES / SNES / GENEIS carts) and I could use my EverDrive N8 Flashcart and load Famicom roms off it. I will likely never own an original Famicom since my collecting is highly curbed these days but I always like the looks of them compared to the North American NES and the carts, don't even get me started, from label art to the compact size I was amazed by Famicom carts and was always disappointed we didn't get that design. Nice and interesting write up, thanks for sharing.

Sharing writings about recollections of days past is a fine way to keep these machines alive. One story triggers another and then another.
Lots of undocumented stories and times with Digi-View. Eventually!

I never owned an Amiga, so learning about this wonderful computer is a real treat.

If you do proceed with your writings as time allows, then I would also suggest joining EverythingC64 as they are a site of Commodore enthusiasts. They cover all Commodore computers, including Amiga. They also have a Discord. (Disclaimer: I'm a member of both their site and Discord.)

@CrossBow, I'm really happy to see that you decided to start your blog here. I've been watching your videos every night for the past few weeks and you are a wealth of knowledge. (Enjoyed the 5200 controller repair video especially) You have so much to contribute to the World of Atari -- a blog seems like a natural fit for you! It’s exciting to see you bring Ivory Tower Collections to the Atari I/O Blog. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come!
PS - added Ivory Tower Collections to our YouTube drop down menu at the top of our homepage

I don't do the blog thing that much but figured some folks here might enjoy a bit more in depth look and explanation on some of the stuff I've done. I also have created a few blogs over at AA as well but it isn't something I do on a regular basis or schedule.

I got one as a late B-day present to myself. My wife has the Super Mario Bros. one and I have the Zelda one. I never even opened it and put it straight into the glass display case with other Zelda memorabilia LOL!

Curious to see where this goes.  The SuperSystem was my first console and remains my all-time favorite.
Back when the 2600 was king, and being a kid, wishing for an Atari and getting a 5200 instead was nothing to sneeze about.  It was an Atari at heart and I'm very grateful to have developed a passion for it.
I'm curious to know someone else's thoughts and feelings about it and what games they like, don't like, and think are possible hidden gems.
It is a very misunderstood system that, in my opinion, showcased everything Atari was about. Even if it was using old technology it was technology that was tried and true.  It and the 2600 were side by side the whole time, too.  There are positive things the 5200 has if one looks hard enough.

I played this on N64 at release. It was fun and I recently considered picking up the DC version. A remaster sounds interesting.
Also, the Legacy of Kain is a great series but the original is a 2D game, while the rest are 3D in the vein of the original Tomb Raider. Soul Reaver is the high water mark in that series.

I've heard of the Legacy of Kain games but haven't played them either. It sounds like something I would likely enjoy so I guess I need to check it out on my DC sometime soon. Thanks for your blog post reminding me about it.

The A2600 was a definite deviation from the norm in the way we looked at television. It was like you had each game as like an interactive TV channel. Channel Three came alive, with graphics and gaming! Of course, the Fairchild Channel F was the first system to offer interchangeable game cartridges (I believe that was the first), but the A2600 was the system that caused the idea to take off. It was to be reckoned with, for sure, and put Atari in the true mainstream. Definitely a fun system to this very day, 43 years later. I was almost two years old when it came out. My family got their first Atari system in 1982. We spent hours playing Frogger, Outlaw, Night Driver, et cetera! It never stopped. It was and is fun at its finest.

I've got a very old single core laptop that runs Windows 7 just fine, but Win10 won't install due to a missing driver for some motherboard component.  It's a really nice PC because the form factor is tiny and it has a really great keyboard.  But it's getting pretty slow, and I think it's mostly that single core CPU.  I've pretty much retired that one to the attic.  It has no value, so no use trying to sell it.
Anything dual core will do Win10 just fine and adding memory does help it run faster IMO.  I've got a Core 2 Duo laptop that's very old but works great.  SSD and 4GB of memory have kept it going, and I use that one a lot.

My story:  I was lucky enough to get a haircut right before this mess happened in very early Feb.  For whatever reason, I asked the lady for a "2" instead of my normal "3" (which is shorter).  So far, I'm in decent shape.  But I think when this is over, I'll be sporting a "Gaston".  Everything pulled back into a pony of some kind.  My hair tends to grown out sideways....like Krusty the Clown.

But I have had to trim my wife's bangs once so far.  God help me, it's a lot of pressure.  I think I did ok, and she says so too.
