The only special feature is that it plays the Pac Man theme as the alarm. No game built in. Still, it looks sharp, and it's special because son #2 got it for me.
I had no idea this existed.
-
It fits nicely. The Pac-Man theme can be played by pushing the upper right button. It's best described as "irritating". I can use that to annoy others. A+

Atari.io as confessional. Forgive me for I have sinned. Yesterday, I "sniped" an ebay auction. I did it for two reasons:
- I knew I'd forget. This auction ended during work hours. No matter how much I would tell myself "check e-bay at 4pm", I knew I'd forget. Indeed, when I got notice that I'd won, I was totally surprised. I DID forget.
- How many of this particular item did I lose in the past? Probably two dozen by the minimum amount over my max bid.
Anyway, I won't do it often, but I can't say I'll never snipe again.

There are automated tools that will bid at the last second.

I purchased a Mattel Electronics Battlestar Galactica Space Alert on eBay. It's dirty, but it works! I'm very excited to have it, as this is one I remember so fondly from my childhood.I do need some help, though. There's no way I'm getting that tape off the back without ruining the instructions sticker. Does anyone know where to find a scan of that sticker? My hope is to print it on my inkjet printer and glue it on. Also in need of a 3D printed battery cover if anyone knows a source for those.THANKS!

Good news - I've found a file to 3D print the battery cover, and one of my children is helping me find a place to have it printed.

The SMS was graphically superior to the NES. Granted. But, Sega needed a better marketing campaign for the SMS. That was the problem, I heard.
-
I think Nintendo was too much of a juggernaut with the NES to ever be challenged by the SMS or 7800. Love them or hate them, their control of the software was a savvy business move.
-
Your opinions, please.
I have an ebay auction running. Normally, I would not call attention to this, but this one confuses me. It's for a broken Gameboy. The ad clearly states that it's broken several times. Yet the price keeps going higher and I have almost 20 watchers!
Please take a look and let me know:
- Is it clear that it's broken?
- Am I missing something about why it's going so high?
Thanks!
-
I would put "For parts" at the beginning of the ad instead of the end. People might be buying it to replace the screen if everything else works. The screen is kind of garbage anyway. Modding GB's for better, backlit screens is pretty common. Plastic case seems fine enough. Plus, the price doesn't seem too high yet if that's their goal.
-
Thank you guys.
I cannot edit the listing once it has bids. But the theory that someone will buy it to install a new screen makes good sense.
It's just weird to me how some items get a lot of attention for no apparent reason.

Awesome! Which PRGE is that, Rick?
-
2017 I think.
-
Of course -- I didn't notice the Defender art on the badge. That was my first PRGE (and 2019 was my second), and I went because it was the Atari anniversary. I was so excited for a chance to see David Crane and Garry Kitchen at their panel. I didn't know any other Atari developer names nor anything else about Atari outside of what I knew as a kid.
-
Blast! I just got sniped at the last second on an ebay auction! Oh well. Money stays in pocket.
-
What was the auction for? Just curious.
I don't much care for eBay auctions for that reason alone.
-
It was for a Colecovision Roller Controller. A track-ball for CV.
It happens. As with most things, I try to find the bright side.

A Pheonix update from Facebook:
CollectorVision Phoenix Production Update:We have some bad news and some good news.First the bad:We thought the new revision of the board was ready to go into production. Unfortunately, when we got the samples in we noticed a previously reported issue but one that we had not been able to reproduce.A few of the first production run customers had an issue with the roller controller where the character would unexpectedly warp around the screen. We had previously not been able to reproduce this issue ourselves. When testing the roller controller with the new boards we saw this same issue. We went back and tested the previous production boards and it appeared as well. So it seems it is related to something in the roller controller hardware or power. This is something we need to get fixed before we can run the production boards. This unfortunately is going to push the shipping date back. We are doing all we can to get this fixed as soon as possible, but I don't want to really speculate on a date until production has started as that is when we will have a much better idea of the delivery date. We are still hoping to get it done by first quarter 2021.The good news is that we have a plan to resolve the issue and are currently working on fixing it. Once we have a fix for the new boards, we should be able to make an adapter board that could be used for the first production run to resolve the issue on the old boards.I hate that this is getting pushed back and really wanted to get this shipped before the end of the year, but I don't want to ship it out with this controller issue.Thank you all for your patience -

There was a prototype leaked a couple years ago for "Pete Best Western", a hotel management simulator on the Magnavox Odyssey 2. It even used The Voice to make snarky remarks about being kicked out of the band before they got big.

The most blessed news I've heard in some time:
Level 1 reduced to Level Zero
Effective immediately (Sunday, Sept. 13), the Clackamas Co Sheriff’s Office is dropping the evacuation level for some of the populated urban areas from Level 1 (Green) back to Normal. This includes Wilsonville, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Happy Valley, Gladstone, Milwaukie, Clackamas, and Tualatin. See map https://bit.ly/35kgtbE for changes.- Show previous comments 1 more

I just made a nice donation to our local Red Cross. I'm very happy to report that my work MATCHED it! How cool is that?
-
For a second there, I thought things had gotten worse from Priority 1 to Priority 0 😅 Great news! Now go relax and play Galaxian.

We're still in a very bleak place in Oregon, as wildfires continue to spread. The sun is pink, and everything is grey outside. It's difficult to breathe with all the smoke in the air. At the moment, my area remains at "Level 1" of alertness with fires just a few miles to the south and east. My family is fine, and we have a few options of places to go if we are forced to evacuate.
The advice I gave my children is what I really believe. I told them that our bodies and our memories and knowledge are all we need. "Stuff" is unimportant. We will be fine.
I'm ending this status with a picture from a small town south of here. It's a complete loss for many, and our entire community is in shock. We will support each other as best we can. I plan on making a giant donation to our local Red Cross.
Thanks to all for your kind thoughts. I do appreciate it very much. I appreciate the few moments of normalcy and distraction from you all here in the forums.

You are too kind, thank you. My collection is nice, but it is just stuff. I was just thinking that when this ordeal is over, I should probably get rid of a lot of this stuff so I don't feel so anchored or attached. I have two backup drives with all our pictures and taxes and files. They are packed and ready by the door.
Thanks very much. I'm a "spiritual lot" too, so I believe it helps. THANKS!

Guys, a good update. Things are turning positive today. The wind has died down, and the temperature is lower. They are now saying the fires won't spread any further. We'll have plenty of smoke still, but that's OK by me.
THANKS for the well wishes. It does help!-

Great news, Rick! I believe it helps, too. I'm glad that it's starting to die down. Any updates so far or is it still going OK?

Sorry to be a downer, but out here in Oregon, things are very bleak. Fires throughout the state are devastating lives and homes and entire communities. As I type this, the sky outside our home is an eerie orange. Fires loom only miles away. It's windy and dry and hot. I'm terrified. We are packing bags tonight in case the call comes to evacuate. I've lived here my whole life, and never experienced anything like this. Take care of yourselves, everybody.

I'm playing "Golf" on the Virtual Boy. It's fun! A very effective use of 3D.
-
I think the Virtual Boy and Vectrex are my favorite things in my collection. Probably because they are so unique and it's not easy to emulate them well.
The very first VB game I ever played was "Nestor's Funky Bowling" at a retro gaming exhibit probably 15+ years ago. It was at a science museum. I was so impressed with the 3D effect and the sharpness of the graphics (even though they are only red/black). I bought a system right away after that and have loved it ever since.
I have always believed that if Nintendo had named it "3D Boy" instead of "Virtual Boy", they may have found more success.

A helpful hint for those of you who got the Ebay 25th Anniversary code: AtariAge has an ebay store front.
-
Ebay has sent me a $25 discount (off a $25.01 or more purchase) for being a member since their beginning! Help me figure out what to buy.
I'm thinking about the following choices:
- An N64 or NES flashcart/everdrive
- One of the rarer 2600 carts that I don't have (Frankenstein's Monster, Gremlins, or ???)
- A 1200xl.
Help me find something good for a decent price!

I'm tempted to say the N64 or NES EverDrive, but my old buddy is super duper proud of doing the case design on the 1200XL and despite a few flaws it's my favorite Atari 8-Bit Computer. If you're going to go that route though consider the Atari XE Game System. The cartridge is easily accessible, it has 64K of RAM, a nice detachable keyboard, it's everything the 5200 could've been. But it's okay to have an XE and get a 1200 XL too 🤓
-
I went with a wildcard: Tempest for the 5200! Only $15 after that coupon.
Thanks for the ideas, I do appreciate it.

Interesting game mechanics and quite a challenge to avoid fire top and bottom! I also like the enemy sprites. Not bad at all!
-
That's what I thought too! It's really hard to focus on top and bottom, but I feel like with some time and effort, I could get a lot better at it. Isn't that the mark of a great game?
