Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of classic characters to be drawn from Atari's golden era games.  I think this is one reason why we only see Bentley Bear in Atari Karts.  The most popular Atari arcade properties predate character driven games. As mentioned above, you're essentially limited to Charley Chuck, Berthilda and Major Havoc.  While a lot of fun, Crystal Castles, Food Fight and Major Havoc are not exactly top tier Atari titles in the vein of Asteroids, Centipede, Tempest, Missile Command and Battlezone.  That said, the classic IP could have been leveraged for world building.

For example, imagine a Missile Command inspired world where you're driving your kart racer in a city while ballistic missiles rain down around you.  Or driving through a mushroom filled land where spiders, scorpions and centipedes are the hazards.  Atari missed an opportunity to find creative ways to themes from their best known games into Atari Karts.

I won't dwell on other improvements like better control, longer tracks, and more obvious power-ups and hazards.  We all know the game didn't have a lot of depth or polish.  For what it is - a generic kart racer - I've always enjoyed it.

    Indeed...very cool.

All I remember about this format was the confusion between Videodisc and Laserdisc.  I don't think I understood that there was a physical stylus (like a record player) fro VHD until much much later.  I'm guessing a lot of people didn't -- especially rental stores.

It's true.  Those have been some of my biggest resell items of all time.  I've purchased HP 11C / 12C's at Goodwill for $10 and sold them in August for over $100.  Even the non-popular models can double your investment.

Here's a good one.  Wouldn't you hate to have been the sucker that paid $75?

I coil the cables in the hallow part of the controllers and then fit them into the slots on the console.

And here she is in final cleaned-up shape.  There's a bit of discoloration on top, but no big deal.  The power adapter has been rewired the right way.  Everything works great.  One question -- Is there a secret to getting the controller wires in to the controllers fit in the slots?  Were controller slots EVER a good idea?

Those calculators are pure gold.  Easy to resell on ebay, especially if you wait until August/September "Back to school" time.  Nice finds.

Great great stuff you all put in.

Not a bad price here.  But this box needs some help.  As much as I hate to do it, tape must be used.

You guys, I just scored an Intellivision 2!  It's really dirty, but it seems to work great.  I got it from ebay -- and the seller was Goodwill in Seattle.  The power adapter is really trashed (wire has been cut, connector is really messed up), but I have a spare, and I will fix the one that came with it properly.

First impression:  The RF signal on this thing is amazing.  LOOK at that picture quality!  I'm very impressed.  And the controllers...I've heard they were worse than the original controllers...but I like them...a lot.  They are thicker and easier to hold.  And the disc feels more like a gamepad than the old controllers.  Well, I've got some cleaning to do, and I'll post a pic again once I get it shiny.

I do need someone to explain the power/reset button on this thing.  How do you turn it off?
