My goal? Finally get a couple games for my Wonderswan Color, so it can stop gathering dust on my shelf. Also get a Sega Master System, or N64. -
While I don't have any valuable games, I HAVE been in this kind of position with another type of collectible. I like to collect a variety of things besides video games. (In fact, I probably collect too many things, but that's another story...) I'm an avid reader, and I like to collect antique books. Quite a few years ago I got my hands on an interesting old book called "Ver Beck's Book of Bears." Now, I didn't think too much about it. It had really nice illustrations, was a pretty old book, but didn't seem too special. A few years ago, though, I got curious and decided to look it up online. Low and behold it turned out to be an exceedingly rare volume worth up to $400 or more. That's a good deal of money for a book. I like it far too much to sell, though. It has more value to me than the money. I imagine if I found any truly rare, valuable video games, it would be a similar case, and depend entirely on whether I like the game more than the money.

Sad but doesn't surprise me. Most of the stores I've visited in recent years looked tired and dated. My hometown's store was not in a safe location and only had parking for a few customers. Small store dealing mostly with hardware, appliances, and some electronics. But it never got an update the whole 35 years I was there. They did do small engine repairs onsite so that might account for their size. The one that was in the area I live now was slightly bigger but very rundown. Some of the items they were trying to sell looked like they had been there a few years. Lawnmowers included. They left May 1st 2018. Nothing has tried to go in the spot they were at which is unusual for a small strip mall.

I have no shame at all when I say I've downloaded roms off the internet. If that makes me a thief, so be it. At least I'm a thief who's actually enjoying myself. I downloaded roms of the entire Wii Virtual Console library when I learned the WiiShop was closing. No shame. My only problem is I hate playing classic console games on a computer with a keyboard. It's a right pain in the neck.

So, I find myself in the market for a Sega Master System. Hoping I can find a cheap one online before 2019 is over.

2019 might be the year I look for a nice Sega Master System too! It's one of my favorite systems. I had a minty fresh one in the box that was stolen out of a storage locker along with many other items from my collection. My best friend had a Master System when we were in elementary school, and when I started retro collecting in middle school I was able to find a Master System II for $19 brand new at Kay-Bee toys with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in. But I always wanted a nice original Master System for my collection. Sega Master System along with TurboGrafx-16 round out the "unique" 8/16 bit systems with great graphics and sound that I love to play. I'll take a Master System over a PS4 or Xbox any day!

All new Status Updates will be seen here and on the Activity Feed of your Member Profile. All of your old Status Updates are archived here: https://forums.atari.io/profile/434-leej07/?do=content&type=core_statuses_status&change_section=1 It appears that older Status Updates didn't import to the Activity Feed on Member Profiles when we added our new SSL certificate yesterday. Everything is still there and it shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

As promised, here is a picture of my great find from earlier today. It's a Coleco Telstar Classic Pong console, CIB, with instruction manual and original power cord. I got the whole thing for just $20. This is the first Pong Console in my collection. No idea yet if it actually works, though.

Dude, I think in the '70s and early '80s, just about everybody started selling video games.

Not Goodwill. This is my modest haul from today's citywide garage sale. DK Bongos for the Gamecube, Fable: The Journey for Xbox 360, and Jade Empire for the Xbox. The white computer-like device on the left is a V-Tech Smart Start Speller from the mid to late '80s. I especially like that faux floppy disk drive it has. The black thing on the right that looks like a calculator is a Unisonic 21 "Jimmy the Greek" Blackjack game/calculator, from 1977. As the picture shows, it still mostly works, but some of the keys appear to be broken. I believe it's now the oldest handheld in my collection.

About damn time, if you ask me. I made the mistake of getting an ATGames Genesis console. From what I later learned, the sound quality is completely screwed up.

Look what I found on Facebook last week, and just arrived in the mail today! 12 issues of Nintendo Power, arguably the greatest gaming magazine that ever existed! There's some great stuff here, like a first look at Ocarina of Time on the N64, speculation on the upcoming Wii, and other gems of Nintendo nostalgia. I can't wait to dig deep into each issue.
