  1. Traditional. perhaps not, though watching every holiday season since release has been my tradition and I feel something missing without it. For myself personally though it will always be a "Christmas" movie for me, beyond many of the arguments given either way, though it released months before in Canada the Christmas theme must of been strong even then as a friend and I went to watch a special screening of it on, you guessed it, Christmas Eve in a large downtown theater in Toronto Canada. It was packed and brightly lit and decorated for Christmas including a huge indoor tree all decked out so as we proceeded to watch the movie I felt very much the Christmas "spirit" as all of us came together in the joy of celebrating this awesome action standard setting film.

I hope it's a false positive, because it came from message #1 of this thread.

Gotcha (I had not been following this thread) I downloaded just now and scanned locally on my PC with Defender and Malwarebytes as well submitted online analysis from Kaspersky and virus total which gets results from a variety of top antivirus and all clean. Not sure WHAT on your system is giving you that false positive but considering my results, no complaints from anyone else and well that Justin provided the link I would say it is definitely a false positive, whatever is giving you this result is merely too aggressive with what it considers a "virus" 🤷‍♂️

    Awesome.

I've also been experimenting with non-alcoholic beer for lunch during work because I'm getting tired of the normal options.

For sure, I might not have said this 20 years ago but options like this are a good thing especially more and more these days! Post any and all Beer reviews even in text form!

  4. Here is my tasting of the comically named THE TOQUES OF HAZZARD extra strong IPA. My first video in 3 months and it's an actual Beer tasting which I've not done since 2016! Thanks for watching, --- THOSE WHO KNOW ME ARE AWARE I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL TASTER / TESTER of any kind, just a guy who enjoys Beer and likes to share some thoughts so please keep that in mind, it's done for free and for my own satisfaction ! --

Very cool! You have VCS adapter or plan to actually use one?

Besides the Trak-Ball which I forgot to mention of even show which I also have in very nice condition YES in fact I DO have the 2600 VCS adapter.

Funny, enough I actually have TWO, one mostly untouched, well besides adding some faux Woodgrain style mactac vinyl on it 😏, the second, heavily modified by someone more skilled than I to not only work as normal plugged into the 5200 but ALSO operate as it's own stand alone 2600 compatible console with a separate power supply and composite / S-video outputs! But that's another story and I am guessing at this point I should probably stop there and let this thread get back to the OP's original topic of "Atari 5200 - Games Wished For" 🤔😀

Sorry for derailing too much Atari 5200 Guy 😏

If I think of anything else I will be sure to continue in my own thread, perhaps continuing my Retro Gaming Corner setup. Thanks again everyone, I should probably go get some sleep......

  6. Awesome Crossbow 😮 thanks so much for your reply and all that additional info! I I’ll keep it in mind! Yes, the cover and front does have nice a textured feel and indeed the label reads Atarimax Inc ! I will reply with the label on AA AS WELL  so feel free to ignore or whatever, when I make the effort for such a post I like to share on several sites and platforms and tailor it accordingly. Thanks again, so glad I posted now 👍🙂

  7. Let me just say all the recent 5200 threads definitely reminded me about my own collection packed away like so much of it but also, if you’ve seen my other thread about setting up my own little retro gaming corner well, I think I definitely need to make some time and add some 5200 playtime and appreciation. Been meaning to post in the other related threads but since I just now located the system and games I had stored away I figured I would just make he one big post here.

First, apologies for the lazy way I have laid everything out, My wife is currently attempting to sleep at 1am while just a few feet away in our laundry room with the door closed I shuffled through these boxes to set up these pictures all while trying to be quit and likely failing miserably. Since my buying and collecting is at a halt for some years now I cannot say, we’ll I better not 😆as far as games I still want or are missing. I had gotten a huge lot of the console and games probably 10 years or so ago. Later, one of the first things of course was getting an early Atarimax USB flash cart as I figured that would cover me for other games I might want to play. HOWEVER, looking through it just now I got to say overall it’s not to bad a collection of original carts? Definitely some titles like Vanguard I would have wanted anyways and I think even a couple the op mentioned. Really, as far as original cart collections I forgot that this is one of my better ones until I pulled it all out of storage 👍

Also shown a variety of manuals, some catalogs and such, also controller overlays, many are doubles and I thought that was all of them but as I was sorting through I noticed many carts already have an original overlay tucked in the back of them. I am quite pleased with the overall condition especially of the 5200 still having the plastic on the silver label and specially the back storage cover is intact. It’s an original 4 port with the odd power passthrough from box as well I have two original power supplies but see one has heat shrink wrap near the end of the connector so I will stick with the other one. I do know it is compatible with the 2600 add on as well as all 5200 games because it had the fix applied. At some point since it never came with a controller I got one of the original 5200 controllers from BEST ELECTRONICS with the gold contacts inside and a member on atariage, was creating his own db9 pc controller adapter that allows me to plug in both an original controller and PC CONTROLLER SIMULTANEOUSLY, it’s not pretty but I recall it working back when I originally tested it. Pretty sure I picked up the Gravis pc joystick back during my thrift shop days and though we’ll, this is the one to go with my 5200 🧐

So there is my massive post on it, sorry for the novel but I been building up to it and had to find time to put everything together take the pictures as well as have the motivation which comes and goes so easily these days. 🤷🤟

  8. I believe that is it (unless someone says otherwise?) sadly, there was supposedly an unreleased prototype of Track 'n Field.

    Track & Field

love my 5200, I have an excellent conditioned one still, 4 port but with those modifications that give it compatibility for those titles that originally did not work with it. I also have a Atarimax Falshcart but actually have several original carts, I really need to play with it more.

Very nice setup!  Just be careful with sitting speakers that close to your TV.  I'm not trying to burst your bubble but I don't want to see your stuff get ruined from a slight oversight.  Some speakers have a magnet in them and can distort the beam in the tube.  So many things come with magnets these days that are harmful to old computer, TV, and console gear that it gets overlooked, missed, and then some wonder why those things don't work or are acting weird.  And I just don't want you to experience that as it would not be pleasant.  😉 Again, very nice setup.  I like seeing these as it can give ideas to those running out of room or just starting.

Heh, oh trust me I am old-school and experienced, I learned the hard way through much tinkering over the years. I know all about the effects on magnets on TUBE TV's, degaussing etc. I appreciate the concern but from what I can see, even with the BOSE speakers literally up against the side there is no ill affect, I suspect it is very well shielded.  😎😉

Well, this was not for me. This is actually one of my client's 5200s they sent to me to get some work done on it. I've advised my clients that they really need to be willing to take a phillips screwdriver and undo the 7 screws on the bottom of it. From there, the entire top half of the shell will lift straight off. From there they can send me the mainboard taped down to the lower case shell using masking or painters tape. Wrap that in lots of bubble wrap all the way around and then send that to me. Costs less in shipping as it weighs less and is far more likely to survive fully intact that way.

Proper shipping of a 5200 is no different than anything else. I add padding to the inside of the controller storage so that any pressure exerted from the top of the system doesn't cause the storage door to bend inward and break as easily if it has support pressure from within the storage area. Wrap the entire console in bubble wrap fully. Use a box that is larger than the console and can allow a minimum of 1" of space all the way around the console, top and bottom. Fill the bottom layer with more bubble wrap, packing peanuts or other soft but cushion material. Place the console into the box centered. Fill the space around the console with packing material like peanuts again. Then more bubble wrap sheets above the console until even with the lids of the box.

Ah of course, sorry I mostly skimmed as I am ought to do and misinterpreted. STILL that said, it is always saddening to see original classic console end up like this.

  11. Ugh so sorry about that, always breaks my heart. I been lucky in my short years of collecting mostly everything was packed so well and arrived safely. I just don't understand when people do not pack properly. Standards I guess and some expeirience. Myself, when I pack something I do so with the thought that it will loikely end up in the hands of a delivery person who had a bad day or just just a moron etc and so I wrap it securely, pack tightly in such a manor that if it were thrown against a brick wall it would still arrive unscathed. It annoys me because just the slightest care and attention could prevent all that damage. 😞 Honestly, more and more over the years seeing so many horror stories involving the 5200, yes it's a big boy and fairly heavy BUT WITH THAT there defintiely is some delicate fragile parts on itespecially that rear cover.

This is awesome!  There's a lot of gaming goodness in that tiny space.  Well done!!!!

I really like the idea of the extra speaker to give the audio some punch.  How did you wire that?  Does your TV have audio out jacks?

Hard to see in image but to the left of the Composite AV input jacks is a headphone output jack which pkaugs directly into the BOSE Aux input. The Speaker is powered / charged through a little mini USB input. Its amazing as through the TV speaker set around 90% volume is equal to volume level with BOSE turned up all the way MAX but the TV needs only be turned up to around level 8 lol. So much more punch and depth to the lows it sounds like an arcade cabinet. I should have done this so long ago but other priorities and life issues mixed in with some procrastination I guess, but it's done now and I plan on playing more retro games as I am having fun exploring all the library of titles revisting cherished classics and discovering all kinds of I never personally played before. Anyway, the best part? I am literally making use the best I can of what I have but the BOSE SPEAKER and the little 13 inch TOSHIBA CRT from 2005 (I looked it up) were finds in our electronics recycling ! I was so glad to find a nice tiny quality CRT for this purpose!

Wow @MaximumRD that setup looks so clean and organized compared to the image on the bottom! It's really nice to click on this and randomly see the wooden Atari drink coaster make an appearance with you playing TurboGrafx-16! How cool.

Thanks very satisfying, honestly should have done it years ago, now my Everdrives getting some use instead of just sitting in storage, played several NES / SuperNES and TG-16-PCengine games already, look and sound great, cannot beleive I put it off for so long. Love playing roms of unrelesed games, translated games and hacks as well on the original consoles! Better late than never I suppose.

  14. 😎Yay! Finally my little “retro gaming” corner is pretty much complete! The first image displaying Dragon Spirit on my TG-16 is the final setup after cleaning, rewiring and organizing.

Middle image with SuperNES Lemmings displayed was starting to come together, added the little BOSE SPEAKER which packs more punch then the tinny sounding TV speakers, I compared and it provides the rich deep arcade cabinet sound which compliments this sharp little Toshiba crt.

Also, added a nice AV SWITCHER with blue LED display, I’ve had it for years doing very little with it, I like it as it match’s the TV and even my Retrobit RetroTrio which are all silver for that classic electronics aesthetic.

The last image is what I started with, a mess, cluttered, dusty, unorganized but I spent the day with the goal of getting this long overdue project completed. Finally satisfied overall, it’s not much but at least it’s something!

I have literally no room for my hobby stuff but this tiny little retro gaming corner is at least something and I got SNES/Genesis/NES covered with the RetroTrio with a Tg-16 underneath and Everdrives carts for all of them. With this setup I can easily add in my Dreamcast or Ps1/Ps2/GameCube etc when needed. I look forward to actually playing and enjoying my systems.

  15. Glad there is this EMULATION section otherwise I'd have no idea where to post this 😏 I did this earlier today and the waves of nostalgia just brought me right back to when I was younger, in many way happier and the fascination and excitement that I would feel just enjoying some C64 slideshows, music demos etc, this would continue later on a bigger level once I upgraded to a Commodore AMIGA but still, it was all just so much fun. Specifically what I did earlier was watch a slideshow demo disk playing c64 tunes in FS-UAE AMIGA EMULATOR ON MY 2011 MacBook Pro running LINUX MINT. Because hell yeah! 😀 Now, I have the C64 and Amiga Forever packages by Cloanto on my much more powerful desktop, but I had been itching to try some AMIGA emulation on the an old Macbook Pro I found months ago, I had recently decided to throw Linux Mint on it as MacOS was getting pretty dated on it and it has been GREAT. After a couple days of researching, trial and error I finally got FS-UAE installed on it, transferred some Amiga disks (.ADF files) over and as a test this was the first thing I did with it. hearing the disk loading sounds and seeing it de-crunch the programs and immediately start playing the musical slideshow was probably the most fun I've had so far with this old Macbook. Part of me was more satisfied doing it all in this way then simply loading up the far simpler AMIGA FOREVER interface on my Desktop, it amuses me that I am enjoying C64 sight's and sounds in an AMIGA emulator on a Macbook running Linux because I am just a big nerd like that.

Anyone do things like this simply because they can? Go about it in maybe a less straight forward way and enjoy it more? Has emulation helped you enjoy a platform or games or operating systems that you just might not be able to enjoy otherwise today due to lack of original hardware / software or perhaps financial or space restrictions? Share any stories of emulation that bring you joy. Myself I am so thankful that the emulation of AMIGA that I laughed and scoffed at back in the day continued to grow and improve to the point I can simulate a setup I could have never dreamed of owning back in the day let alone today, I am thankful for it.
