I bought a bunch of cool stuff from a collector on AtariAge forums, and it arrived today and covers 2600, 5200, and 7800.

    • 2600 Track & Field cart and controller, Starplex controller
    • 5200 trak-ball (my backup), Gorf, Wizard of Wor, Pac-Man
    • 7800 Alien Brigade, Frenzy homebrew

I also picked up recently 7800 loose carts and sealed games during the past few weeks. I'm now a dozen away from a complete 7800 NTSC collection.

Wow awesome ! You even got 5200 Wizard of Wor aw well ! OH and GORF NICE! 😎👍

I agree that it's an interesting cart design.  I like the little indentations that make it easy to pull the cart out.

You'll like them both I'm sure.  Of the two, Mountain King is more unique.  But they are both fun.  Like I said, the 5200 controller makes WoW more difficult when the levels start getting really fast.

I really need to get my 5200 out.  I still have a brand new "Tempest" to try!  But space is limited with both adult children home.

YES lack of space is my issue as well and that wont change as we own a 1 bedroom condo and not looking to EVER owe for a place again so even in best case scenario it's out of here and hopefully not for a long time into retirement home which will be more major downsizing 😜obviously very little to nothing of my collection will be going there. 😥So my point being 99% of my collection is stored until I get the itch to try something specific.

  3. Just random thoughts upon seeing the recent and improved Homebrew version of Wizard of Wor Arcade for the 2600 on atariage store which looks absolutely amazing I began thinking about this title. I don't think I ever encountered it in the arcade bitd and if I did no doubt I passed it over to play other games. Now, these days I am not really in a position to pick up the great looking 2600 homebrew version and I thought well at least I could load up my harmony cart and try the old original 2600 release rom and I still plan to dig it out and do just that, I figured this was my only shot of playing Wizard of Wor since I don't own any other version or have an original cart. BUT THEN what do you know? The other day as I was literally digging through my boxes I happened upon al my 5200 stuff, one of the few systems I still have a few original carts for and lo and behold HERE IT IS! I have an original cart for the 5200! Cool! I do NOT have the original instructions or an overlay as I do for several other of my loose games (though I also have MOUNTAIN KING with both the instructions and overlay!) but still at least it's something, I look forward to trying it out, not expecting it to be as good as the new 2600 homebrew but was wondering, it might be a while until I actually have the time to hook up the old 5200 beast but for those who might know, how does the 5200 stack up? I mean at least in comparison to all the original homeports? Is it worthwhile? Anyone a fan of this game? Here is my cart - 🤘😎

  4. As CrossBow touched on yes the NES Switchbox are not compatible with Pre-NES consoles like Intellivision, ColecoVision etc. So it is good to get a RF to coaxial cable adapter or even an original type of switchbox where you manual can slide the switch between TV / GAME select.

So, you unit appears to power on but all you get is a black screen? And you are SURE the TV is receiving a signal, like even though it is a black it still looks different then when powered off? Maybe when you switch on the console you notice a split second of static or something? Just trying to determine it IS actually powering on and sending a signal to TV.

What about SOUND? Anything at all.

Last shot, and it's a funny one, at least with my Intellivision II console this is a thing, obviously you are fully inserting the carts the correct way (not sure upside down is even possible) BUT ALSO if it's like mine, I actually find inserting them fully results in no image, in fact they seem to work best when mostly inserted like nearly all the way but not quite, so maybe try at slightly different levels and see if anything at all appears different. Maybe also, before cleaning all the carts go the direct route and try cleaning the console cart slot first? Blowing in of course may be just enough. Other then that and making sure it's powering on and everything including cables are properly connected I am not sure. I assume you have other RF consoles that display fine? Does the Intellivision output allow to select channel 3 or 4?  That's all I got.

  5. YES might be nostalgia but honestly when I see this question there is only one that comes to the front in my mind, been there from the start on NES and loved the original but that said for me, as cliche as it might be to say mine is also The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on super Nintendo. I tried but I never really got into his adventures once he jumped into 3D on N64 or anything afterwards on Gamecube etc, I looked forward to them and tried them but they just made me appreciate Link to the Past even more. Boring answer, typically my choice is NOT typical or expected but I just could not consider anything else.

  6. 😎😜My early experience with a classic computer, silly story, what's yours?

First I start off with my usual rambling, plus a shoutout to jugghead82, then a silly story of mischievous youths interaction with a very classic computer. PLEASE leave a comment or quick response video relating your own interaction or experience with a classic computer or computing platform check out his channel HERE:

Check out his Rock impersonation and tasting / review of Dwayne the Rock Johnson's TEQUELA (no not VODKA like I said in the video 😜)

  7. I know someone else mentioned the McWill mod to improve the screen issue? Coincidentally just seen THIS video, now this is for the LYNX II so not sure how or if it might apply to an original LYNX but interesting still.

UPDATE : Ah ok, noticed early in the video the AD where he ordered the mod states MCWILL LCD UPGRADE KIT FOR ATARI LYNX II (REDESIGNED VERSION 2)

SO PERHAPS THIS IMPLIES THE ORIGINAL DESIGN WAS FOR THE ORIGINAL LYNX? 🤔

  8.

Just some fun but I think some of you may appreciate the fun music parodies you can find on the Holderness Family Youtube Channel !

My wife and I have been enjoying the Holderness Family music parodies for a few years now. Just some fun entertainment to lighten moods.

A nice family who have a lot of fun, they do all kinds of genres of music so you are sure to find some favorites.

  9. Literally stumbled on this and was really surprised to see the word COLECOVISION, honestly you never see that right?

Max Reload and the Nether Blasters - Official Trailer (2020) Sci-Fi, Adventure Movie

Check it out, sure it is low rated and likely not the greatest but clearly someone involved was a fan of good old Colecovision because the game cartridge and the system shown is just that, Colecovision! Unlike all of these types of movies it's not just another Nintendo or Nintendo like platform, so even in a little low key film like this it is great to see it based around COLECOVISION and that they at least attempted to cater to a very specific fan base.

  10. Yeah, so called "Atari" today are nothing more than litigation hungry holders of trademark / IP who just want to try and grab every bit profit they can. Also, they want to keep reselling the same crap over and over to the Atari faithful. The AtariVCS has yet to have a single unit reach an actual backers hands, the only people who have claimed to receive any units seem to be "friends" or family (IE: people connected) to the AtariVCS team, I remain very skeptical an actual backer will ever receive a unit, even if they DO it is nothing worth the price and certainly brings nothing new to the table but of course people want one because it has a woodgrain finish and an Atari logo on it. They have proven to be very heavy handed against anyone using the Atari name even though such projects are what keep interest and the legacy in mind and alive. They wont release a 2600 compatible with HDMI for $50 or under because they are not capable of doing so, so instead they want to sue a company that has done exactly that 🙄 They consider themselves as gatekeepers of the Atari brand but sadly it seems every move and decision they make just deteriorate the Atari brand and legacy more and more, SHAME. You damn well know even if they worked with HYPERKIN to produce the Retron77 they would have been $150 USD right from the get go.

  11. Awesome NES game FROM BELOW 😎

That's right, came across this and thought I would share. Not just in the classic 8-bit NES style but in fact actually available to play online in a browser based NES emulator

or even better download the latest ROM file direct from the authour to play in an emulator or even on actual NES compatible hardware using Flashcart / Everdrive etc.

    https://mhughson.itch.io/from-below

A fun and impressive game! Check out this screen shot as well an excerpt of the description. Link to itchio . com for more info and ROM downloads.

    The Kraken cometh...

    Capture.PNG.1f235bdac1b3f21ae27e37e72a0a1416.PNG

From the deepest trenches of the ocean, the Kraken has come to lay waste to your city!

The archers have slung every arrow.
The burning tar has run dry.
Every piece of military weaponry has been dispatch.

And yet... the Kraken moves forward, climbing the towering walls of your seaside fortress.

With no ammunition left, the city itself moves from a barricade, to a weapon!

The stones of the walls are broken off, and hurdled down at hideous creature. And it just might be enough to
slow it down till morning, when surely help will arrive...

    ---

Hi! I am working on my first Homebrew NES game, FROM BELOW!

It a falling block puzzle game featuring:

    Soft Drops
    Hard Drops
    Wall Kicks
    T-Spins
    Lock Delay
    3 modes of play:
    Kraken Battle Mode

The signature mode of FROM BELOW. Battle the Kraken by clear lines across the onslaught of attacking Kraken Tentacles. The Tentacles push more blocks onto the screen every few seconds, forcing to act quickly, and strategize on an every changing board.

    nes_tetris_july_03_gameplay_edit.gif.f612edbacd3915eafbfc0e0e5735b0f8.gif

    Classic Mode

The classic block falling mechanics you know and love without any new gimicks. Modernize for 2020, with Hard Drops, Lock Delay, and more, making this (hopefully) the best feeling puzzle game on the NES!

    Turn Based Kraken Battle Mode

Similar to "Kraken Battle Mode", but instead of the Kraken attacking every few seconds, it advances its tentacle every time you drop a piece. Make every move count, as this move favors slow, deliberate play!

  12. 😛

Well I will post one more, I tried but I guess not many will put themselves out there or laugh at themselves (THANKS to few who participated), that's cool, I tried and in that same spirit this next post shows I am totally willing to be laughed at. I will leave it at that, this thread can just die off or whatever.

---- BUT FIRST A MESSAGE ----- NO RAT(S) WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS 30+ YEAR OLD IMAGE, THOUGH

THEY MAY HAVE ENDURED SOME MOISTURE 😉

😜 ME back in my teens, yep that is real, my pet RAT JD, if I say he did not bite me on occasion I would be lying, if I said I did not deserve it.....I would also be lying....SIDE NOTE, an old iPhone 4 makes an awesome fast scanner for old photos 😛😆 Last word, besides silly shenanigans like this they my rats (JD and MARTY, MARTY WAS ALL WHITE) were played with a lot, feed pizza or whatever I was snacking on etc. They were fun. 😎 they fact I could even DO this was due to their, perhaps misplaced TRUST.

  13. It DID occur to me lack of participation may be down to many not having photos / Polaroids in digital format available for posting and no easily accessible scanner to consider doing so and with that in mind just a thought........

These days for the most part one could likely use a tablet or phone camera as these are so common to just take a picture of an original photo or Polaroid, MY image I started with was actually just taken with an older tablet camera of a Polaroid. IF any of you have a photo in mind consider that method, just be wary of reflective light and FOCUS as much as possible, I think you might be surprised how easily this can be done. I am considering doing some more of my own this way 😛
