  3. Opinions on EMULATION - What do YOU use?

Been far to long! My NEW video. Be warned ;) this is a ramble where I veer off on tangents and for those that have been with me for a while it is expected. Be sure to grab a beer / coffee and sit back and listen to my take on the topic of emulation ranging from my history to views on ethics and morality of emulation to thoughts on what I might like to try and finally PLEASE SHARE what you like to emulate and your personal favorite means of emulating. THANK YOU.

  4. For some reason it keeps being alleged that this thing is made by a company unrelated to Atari that got their hands on the trademark and wants to milk it, like the "Commodore Android phone". Where is this company? Can you point to this mysterious third party? Unless I'm out of the loop, the Atari trademark still solely belongs to Infrogrames. So unless you think that "Infogrames is not Atari" (which would be wrong), I have no idea how this allegation is supposed to make sense.

Infogrames is not "making" this ;)  Mysterious 3rd party? Nothing mysterious about it. The man behind ATARIBOX is Feargal Mac, he is literally in charge and he is known for shoddy products and past crowd funding failures. He acquired the rights to make this project and use the Atari brand. There are extended discussions about it on several forums, sites, videos etc. The info is easily found for anyone making simple search efforts. Just one quick example of one of the first things found googling Feargal Mac Ataribox -

  5. I am going to go out on a limb and risk having to eat crow and paste here what I posted elsewhere regarding this fiasco -

I would love to say people like us do not fall for such things but many are collectors that simply refuse to see an obvious scam for what it is, the same people enticed in the past by the Coleco Chameleon scam, it was the same process of level headed fans and collectors calling it out pretty early on but even as the proof emerged waves of so called Coleco fans refused to remove the nostalgia goggles and relentlessly defended it until the inevitable clear failure.

Even then many of them turned around to say WE killed it with comments and negativity lol. Yeah, some will believe anything by anyone and are willing to part with money as long as it has the name / logo and marketing hype attached. They simply do not want to accept that it is being marketed by a man known for shoddy products and questionable background who simply acquired the name from the current owners.

They prefer to believe in unicorns and leprechauns and a new Atari that will bring balance to gaming once again....or some nonsense.  This has already crossed the line where you cannot just say "Well I prefer to wait and see" or simply "I am an optimist", no you just refuse to see the obvious signs for what it is or even make the proper deduction based on past history of similar schemes.  This is why we see these types of things repeated over and over.

Name a crowd funded console that successfully launched? Someone else I know made this comment, it was the Ouya and that was pretty much a failure within a year.
  6. I'm thinking of getting one of these for my PS4.  They do work with the standard PS4, right?  Apparently there is a discount today for these.

Yes they work for standard as well SONY has been pretty outspoken about "OH NO YOU DO NOT NEED THE ProPS4 !" so that is true currently though I wonder if at some point if 3rd party if not SONY themselves will start releasing titles and add-ons that definitely require the pro for a worthwhile experience. Of course you could always consider upgrading to the Pro should that happen. I would look forward to your impressions of PSVR either way and really that might be more relevant as most people at least for a while would also be using a standard PS4.

  7. Ataribox JUST shared this message and images in their Facebook page................hahahahhaha

We were going to wait for launch to show you the Ataribox Joystick, but we like it way too much to wait. What do you think?

  8. SEGA has zero interest in re-entering the hardware market. These "fan" led attempts at spurring them to do so are just sort've weird. Also, the design is horribly ugly. It has all of the worst attributes of "gaming" PCs.

Thank you, agree 100%, it has never worked this way in the past, these "fans" are delusional but I think it is a reflection of the current generation based less in reality and more thinking because of social media believing in their own self interests take priority over anything else. It is great to have nostalgia and love something but this is not the way to revive it.

  9. post-15-0-54680500-1508618963_thumb.jpg

More "proposals" and signatures blah blah blah, what these clowns do not seem to get is SEGA have no interest, IF they do want to re-enter the market I am sure they have their own way of doing so.

Sega Spartan? More like Sega Fartin am I right? ENOUGH ALREADY. No amount of petitions or signatures by Sega Fans is going to make the current Sega take notice or give a shit, they are too busy lending their license and IP's to cheap Chinese handheld and clone manufacturers for quick cashing in on Sega fans nostalgia.

From the site - Is the Spartan and Sonic 4K endorsed by Sega? No. The Spartan is not endorsed by Sega. This project serves to build a working prototype to propose to Sega. In turn, entice them to come back to the console hardware market with a current gen console.

Sonic 4K is a fan made tech demo. It will not be sold for commercial purposes.

    HERE WE GO AGAIN

IN OTHER WORDS ONCE AGAIN SOME RABID FANS THINK SEGA IS GOING TO GIVE A CRAP, ENOUGH ALREADY,  :P

This will serve only to ONCE AGAIN stir up all the Sega fanboys and get hopes up only to result in another failed attempt. "Project Dream" , Dreamcast II etc, etc, etc, rinse and repeat. AND BEFORE anyone starts with the "Oh but anything is possible! Stop being "negative"! " No, no. there is nothing of substance or anything based in reality here, we keep seeing this, over and over and over for years now, all the "WANTING" and "WISHING" and "DREAMING" are NOT going to do a damn thing to bring a worth while Sega console to market. It is not being "negative" or having a glass half empty viewpoint it is common sense and being rooted in reality.

    I LOVE SEGA  :sega_genesis: ,

I have had about every console and handheld and still have several including Sega CDX, SMS, 3 Dreamcasts etc which I will always love and enjoy. But every time there is a Fan based project, proposal, online petition, rendered images and a lot of vague double talk and saying things like "We are hoping to entice Sega back into the console market" the end result is ALWAYS the same and if you been following and paying any type of attention you damn well know it, every two bit online gaming related article and blogger spin it into some positive great new Sega hope, fans get stirred into a frenzy to the point of getting mad or defensive if you so much as question the validity of it, there is a lot of talk and hype and noise and then.....either excuses or it completely disappears or to reemerge in another form or fashion in 3 month, 6 months, or a year, LATHER RINSE AND REPEAT  It has to be said and it is OK, I am quite use to the misinformed and defensive fan backlash proclaiming me quite wrongly to be a HATER or not Party Spoiler or the most ludicrous accusation that I merely hate SEGA (my collection / history would say different  ) because in the end it is always the same result, I see no reason to expect anything different THIS TIME or THE NEXT TEN TIMES  If anything I am a Sega Fan who does not let my love or nostalgia guide me or blind me to what common sense and repeated history has taught me, you do not have to like it but you should at least try to accept it and deal with it. Just wanting this madness to stop.

  10. Minor Update: The Acer AspireOne is an Intel Atom based device so my assesment is it is always going to be somewhat slow in use but that said it still manages to do what I need it to. What I like about it is it is so tiny yet solid with it's 10.1 inch display.

On the upside Linux Mint is still very nice, I am fully updated and I think I can say I am taking full advantage of the device as a bonus I had a spare SSD lying about, a 40GB Kingston so I used that to replace the 160GB HDD, sure it is much smaller obviously but considering I have pretty much everything I want on it and I still have 30GB FREE of 38.2GB total, so only 21% of the space is being used it is well worth it for the increase in speed. On top of that I really lucked out as looking through all the spare parts I kept over the years I found a laptop SoDimm so I swapped the memory it already had, 1GB with a 2GB spare one I found, this brings it to the 2GB total that it is capable of. This is awesome as the 1GB was already reaching max with a few tabs open in Firefox, now I have plenty of memory space to spare in this OS. So turns out this little find is even better with the upgrades, seems it was meant to be. Lastly I have installed several new programs including Chromium Browser just now and all done using the Software Manager built into Linux Mint. Fun stuff. I will definitely keep this device and keep Linux Mint installed on it.  :)

  11. Excellent Rick! As you know I installed the same version of Linux Mint on the tiny AcerOne Aspire, though I had a minor issue installing the WiFi I figured it out and now it is all set up and running well. There IS a learning curve yes despite what some might say but overall it definitely is lighter on the resources allow for some thing a Windows OS would really drag with. I LOVE REPURPOSING old tech and using lighter OS alternatives is a great way as well it expands our knowledge. NOTE : I am not a fan of typing into terminal prompts and lost my love for that after years of modern Windows usage (if that makes me lazy so be it but I skipped the DOS age of PC's using the AMIGA workbench GUI then straight to Win98 lol) but there ARE good alternatives for installing more software you might be interested in using Linux Mints own in built Software Manager. I plan on giving it a good look over for anything else I might want to add. On that note you may find THIS of interest :

Good stuff Rick, thanks for sharing and have fun!
