😎 Who feels like playing MAME?
-
Busy weekend, I haven't forgotten you guys 🙂
-
Busy is the new normal for many! Don't worry about the lot of us vagabonds. We understand completely.
I've been unable to participate in the VCS challenges because my gaming room has been taken over by visiting adult children! I would move the VCS downstairs, but that involves undoing all the wiring and just thinking about it makes me tired. In any case, we should be back to empty-nest status later this week.-

🕹❄️☃️ Ready for Black Friday?

@DegasElite It's just a reference to the image I posted which is supposed to look like something from the Sears Catalog in the early '80s. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving 😀

🕹️🤯 We now live in a world where Swordquest: Airworld exists. Let that sink in.
-
🤔 It would be nice to see "Atari" release Swordquest: Airworld as an "Atari XP" cartridge for the 2600, if that's at all feasible.
-
I haven't played it yet but I sure plan to. It appeared to be done in modern code with "a 2600 flavor", if it were feasible to bring Swordquest Airworld to a playable Atari 2600 cartridge - keeping intact what makes this new Airworld so special - that would be amazing. Atari must be commended for what they've done here.

-
Remember when TBS started every show five minutes late? Everything would be at 10:05 PM etc.
-
Wait, they don't still do that? 😅
TBS was still on "Turner Time" the last time I tuned in. LOL!

I remember when it was called WTBS and it was channel 17 in Atlanta. It was a local channel there, not unlike WGN in Chicago.
-
Yes I do. My family would tape movies off their channel and cut out the commercials. It was one of the most difficult channels to tape because of their commercials. They would play commercials without any warnings (fade in/fade out).

🤔 Tasha Yar, in spirit, was a Bajoran freedom fighter

And Will Riker & Troi the Betazoid were clearly a reimagining of Will Decker & Ilia the Deltan

I just read a fascinating set of books about Star Trek (The Fifty Year Mission / Marc Altman) with all kinds of juicy gossip and behind-the-scenes info. Examples: Bob Justman came up with and pushed for Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard. Gene Roddenberry HATED the idea but eventually gave in due to not finding his ideal. He figured that Will Riker would take on that action/Kirk role, which is something you see a lot of in season 1.
Anyway, I highly recommend those two books. I checked them out at the library.

📺 Added a cool ‘YouTube’ dropdown menu at the top of the page, hope you’ll check it out and enjoy‼️

@MaximumRD I'm glad you like what I did! Do you remember Rob, back when we were actively communicating on YouTube, tagging everyone in our videos and filming responses to Steve Benway, AtariLeaf, Mr. Intellivision etc.? This would've been around 2009-2010. I created a small website, it was like a little experiment called "The Daily Bomb" at getdevious.com/thebomb (it's long gone now) It was partially "The Onion / The Babylon Bee for Classic Gaming" with parody headlines etc, but the homepage had dropdown menus and hyperlinks to everything and everywhere interesting on line that had to do with classic gaming. There was even a page called "The Bomb Sixteen" with 16 of our favorite and most active Twitter feeds, all shown on one page. I really liked that "hub" idea, that someone could set us as their default home page whenever they open their browser and quickly link to everything interesting within the world of classic gaming. I'd like to incorporate more of that idea into Atari I/O moving forward. Maybe in some very big ways. I'm glad after all these years you're still out there creating content and that you're still you 😉🍻

🕹️ Tonight we wrap up Cybermorph & tomorrow we begin our 2021 F-ZERO Christmas Challenge on SNES!
-
I've had so much fun with Cybermorph! Now that I have real hardware, it's been a blast. That moment I figured out it's more of an exploration game is the moment I really appreciated how great the game is. I'll try to give it one more run this afternoon after work.
And F-Zero is a blast! I can already hear the theme music in my mind. Looking forward to this.
-
It's so great to hear that @RickR! Contrary to the popular perception that's out there, the Jaguar has a few gems! Cybermorph is a misunderstood game in some ways. People like to compare both Cybermorph and Trevor McFur to Star Fox because of the polygon ships and the cat theming, but it's not a good comparison. Cybermorph was the first 3-D exploration game I ever experienced, and it just blew me away. My whole family enjoyed it. I saw it as 3-D Pac-Man with the yellow diamond shaped pods as the Pac-Man pellets.
Looking forward to seeing you in Mute City tomorrow!

👉 @GRay Defender has a wonderful review highly recommending Nukey Shay's 8K Pac-Man. He sums up my thoughts perfectly: Atari's version of 2600 Pac-Man was pathetic, but I still played it relentlessly and appreciate it today for what it is. If you want to play 2600 Pac-Man, swap it out for Nukey Shay's 8K Pac-Man hack and you won't be disappointed:
-
I think we'll do 8K Pac-Man next year for our next National Pac-Man Day, it will be a nice way to remember Nukey Shay and a heck of a lot of fun ☺️

Nice!
We've been watching a lot of movies lately. The selection last night was the third X-Men movie. It was kind of a stinker, but entertaining to watch. There was one very funny scene that went by in a flash -- Colossus carrying a gigantic CRT TV under one arm very casually at Professor X's school. -
That little girl will remember and cherish that moment for the rest of her life, guaranteed. Kids remember loved ones spending time with them doing anything. I know I still do.
My wife and I have an "adopted" daughter who has kids which we have "adopted" as our grandchildren. The oldest one at age 4 played Frogger on my 2600. To this day she still remembers that and she's 11 now. We now play Minecraft (her favorite) when they come to visit. All of the grandkids visited us around the end of February and the five kids all played a video game of some sort. The NES was out, the 7800 was hooked up, the 360 got some playtime, even the 5200 seen some game time.

I feel like Atari I/O is entering its Junior year. A 3rd Phase. Strapping down and getting serious about having fun after a long lazy summer.
-
@kamakazi20012 good idea! Maybe next week you and I can challenge other members to 2-Player Battles...

Any update on obliterating the virus warning? Anything we can do to help?

🤔 THOUGHT: The Atari XEGS was everything the Atari 5200 should've been: Atari 8-Bit Computer technology bundled in a console w/ lots of memory, detachable keyboard, & fully compatible w/ Atari computer games & joysticks!
-
👉 ALSO: I feel like if there had been a warehouse full of unsold 5200 games left over when Jack Tramiel got the company, the XEGS would've featured 5200 compatibility.
-
@MaximumRD I basically see two different tracks of Atari technology (up until Lynx). On one side you had the 2600 with all its games and peripherals which begat the 7800. On the other track was the 400/800 computer which spawned the Atari 5200, and later the Atari XE. It would have been nice for the XE to be the all-in-one 7800 Computer Keyboard fully compatible with the library of Atari 8-Bit Computer games and accessories. Instead they gave us an entirely new system to compete for shelf space against the 2600 and 7800, not to mention NES and Sega.

How many Saturday mornings were derailed stuck on an unbeatable level you spend your entire day on 🤖
-
I spent countless hours in EDF on the SNES. I'd be doing really good until the 5th level. Sadly, using continues left you with an under powered ship making it virtually impossible to push through. After a while, and many attempts and starting completely over, I'd rage quit and play F-Zero or work on Zelda.
-
I spent one Saturday trying to make it all the way through Space Harrier on the Master System. Made it level 7 or 8. Another weekend I had a friend staying the weekend with me. We worked on Double Dragon II together and actually finished it.
In high school, a classmate overheard me talking about Castlevania II and being stuck, not knowing where to go next. So they drew me up a map using lines with writing pointing to what was where and wrote down where I needed to go next. I spent Saturday and Sunday on that one. Beat Dracula only to learn the game had two endings and I got the bad one.
Lots of memories spending weekends working on completing games, mostly NES games.

It has now become professionally dangerous to disagree with some people on the Internet.
-
I added two policies to my Facebook for this reason. First, I set my profile and most of my posts to friends only. Secondly, NEVER add people I currently work with to friends.
-
I have to constantly remind myself that I'm on Facebook to share my bad jokes only.
-
Twitter is becoming diabolical and Orwellian.
