A Kay-Bee ad from 1984 that is circulating on Facebook. Wouldn't it be cool to take the DeLorean time machine back to that time with a wad of cash and buy everything in sight?

I'd only buy the items that have astronomical prices now. Just imagine how much money we could make hawking truly rare items on Ebay!
-
Buy all the games, and also buy some Apple stock. Keep the games and sell the stock once you get back.

That was a great year for everyone. Atari, video arcades, the Cars. I was turning ten years old in 1984. I remember it like yesterday. :O)

Harry: Please do send me those files. I would love those for my shelf.
More importantly, I need some help. I have no idea what I'm doing. My first question: what software do you use at school to create the model files?
One issue I've had so far is this: I printed the bottom half of a Vectrex cart shell as shown above, and it came out perfect. I think I may need to bump up the amount of filament used, but otherwise, very good for a first try. But then, the top of the shell didn't work at all. Why? Because the Thingiverse file had the model upside down (flat side up). I thought my printer software would automatically flip it, but it didn't. And I tried to figure out how to flip it myself, but no go.Of course, no obligation. Maybe others here have some knowledge to share too. I'm having fun learning something new.
THANKS! -
I'm new to it myself too, so maybe another member can help you with your Vectrex cart issue.
In school, we've been using this site called tinkercad. It's kind of a beginner's 3D modeling tool aimed for teaching it in schools, so there are others that are much more robust. But if you're first starting out, I highly recommend it. It's user friendly, easy to work with, all online, and most importantly free (to my knowledge). Might be worth a try-out.
PM me an email address you'd like me to use and I'll share those 3D print files with you.
-
I will try TinkerCAD. Thanks!

RE: Jack Frost. I wasn't familiar with it until I visited Canada a long time ago and saw it on TV there. I don't remember much about it other than first being delighted to have a new-to-me Rankin/Bass show to watch, and then disappointed at how strange it was. Well, that was a good 25 years ago. Maybe I should give it another go.
-
Honestly I think Jack Frost is probably the best Rankin/Bass special. Though it's not particularly a high bar.

What is it for?

From what I know, it's like the Harmony cartridge but for the Intellivision. It lets you play rom files, so you can play homebrews and store the entire official Intellivision library on a single cartridge. I hear the Intellivision homebrew scene is quite vibrant. I missed out on the early batches and ordered this. Hopefully it'll come in 4-6 weeks.
-
You got it. It's an Intellivision multi-cart.
I'm planning on getting a CRT out to try this out sometime soon. Right now, our dining room table has a new computer for my wife on it. Until we get time to get her VPN installed and swap it out with the old PC in the office, I'm on hold. After, I'll use that space to play some intellivision.

This one is leaving my collection soon. It's a nicely working Commodore 64c. I put an ad on Craigslist and got several interested buyers. Why am I selling? I have a "breadbin" 64 that's in very faded condition cosmetically, but I've replaced everything broken on the inside. One 64 is enough for me.
Interestingly, I tried Facebook marketplace first, but only got one lukewarm response. That's unusual. The Craigslist post got many inquiries. It's funny how those two seem to flip-flop in popularity.

Those power supplies are known to go bad and take the C64 with it. This one tests out fine. But it makes sense to either buy a modern power adapter or buy a Ray Carlson sacrificial diode wire.
On my breadbin, I built my own power adapter AND use the diode thing.

That's right. You should see the one I made. Frankenstein-esque. But totally safe.

Nice! Is it much cheaper than an actual N64 Everdrive? Any downsides compared to an actual Everdrive?
During Black Friday, I ordered Everdrives for SNES and Genesis. Even if you're a collector, playing games using these types of cartridges makes a lot of sense. I use the Harmony Encore cartridge to play 2600 games even though I have the actual game cartridges.

$60 for this vs. $160 for the real Everrdrive. The only downside is that longevity is unknown.
I have several everdrives (NES, SNES, Genesis, TG16, GBC), and they all work most excellently. I agree they make good sense. Not just in overall cost-savings, but in convenience.-

Plus, it saves wear and tear on the original cartridges. It's a neat idea, actually.

I purchased a Mattel Electronics Battlestar Galactica Space Alert on eBay. It's dirty, but it works! I'm very excited to have it, as this is one I remember so fondly from my childhood.I do need some help, though. There's no way I'm getting that tape off the back without ruining the instructions sticker. Does anyone know where to find a scan of that sticker? My hope is to print it on my inkjet printer and glue it on. Also in need of a 3D printed battery cover if anyone knows a source for those.THANKS!

Good news - I've found a file to 3D print the battery cover, and one of my children is helping me find a place to have it printed.

Awesome! Which PRGE is that, Rick?
-
2017 I think.
-
Of course -- I didn't notice the Defender art on the badge. That was my first PRGE (and 2019 was my second), and I went because it was the Atari anniversary. I was so excited for a chance to see David Crane and Garry Kitchen at their panel. I didn't know any other Atari developer names nor anything else about Atari outside of what I knew as a kid.

The most blessed news I've heard in some time:
Level 1 reduced to Level Zero
Effective immediately (Sunday, Sept. 13), the Clackamas Co Sheriff’s Office is dropping the evacuation level for some of the populated urban areas from Level 1 (Green) back to Normal. This includes Wilsonville, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Happy Valley, Gladstone, Milwaukie, Clackamas, and Tualatin. See map https://bit.ly/35kgtbE for changes.- Show previous comments 1 more

I just made a nice donation to our local Red Cross. I'm very happy to report that my work MATCHED it! How cool is that?

For a second there, I thought things had gotten worse from Priority 1 to Priority 0 😅 Great news! Now go relax and play Galaxian.

Ebay has sent me a $25 discount (off a $25.01 or more purchase) for being a member since their beginning! Help me figure out what to buy.
I'm thinking about the following choices:
- An N64 or NES flashcart/everdrive
- One of the rarer 2600 carts that I don't have (Frankenstein's Monster, Gremlins, or ???)
- A 1200xl.
Help me find something good for a decent price!

I'm tempted to say the N64 or NES EverDrive, but my old buddy is super duper proud of doing the case design on the 1200XL and despite a few flaws it's my favorite Atari 8-Bit Computer. If you're going to go that route though consider the Atari XE Game System. The cartridge is easily accessible, it has 64K of RAM, a nice detachable keyboard, it's everything the 5200 could've been. But it's okay to have an XE and get a 1200 XL too 🤓
-
I went with a wildcard: Tempest for the 5200! Only $15 after that coupon.
Thanks for the ideas, I do appreciate it.

How awful. Poor little thing.
-
Oh man, I apologize.
There's a youtube channel called "Hoovie's Garage". It's a guy that buys cars and talks about them and fixes them, etc. Anyhoo, he bought a Ferrari, and it ended up completely burning to the ground due to a badly placed hose clamp! Very sad, but he took it well. Hoovie also has a DeLorean that took a ton of time and money to get fixed.

Just so you guys don't think I'm dead (because of no posts lately) -- although I'm sure @MaximumRD would respectfully report on it if I was, there's a new project I've been working on. Restoration of a 2003 Subaru. It's got a water leak (which makes it smell bad), and needs some engine work. But I'm having FUN with it. My father was an auto mechanic. It feels good to get the hands dirty.
AND...I got a NEW JOB! I start next week. Should be lower stress. I hope.

I agree with StormSurge. Normally I'd say not to because of value later but...it needs air. Also...I didn't know HW made those.

It has been opened! Looks good, although they should have made it BIGGER than the Enterprise, right?

Oh guys, I'm feeling so overwhelmed at work lately. Please forgive me for venting, but it's gotten so difficult. Do more with less. I just feel so bad that I can't seem to keep up.

-
I agree with you. Don't quit unless it's what you really want to do. Do you feel this is a current project that has driven things to become more difficult? Or have things changed in your work environment in general which have made things more of a challenge?
-
My main issue is that I find myself with zero support from above. My supervisors are all very busy on other important things (I guess they are overwhelmed too), and I feel too much pressure to make decisions that feel way above my pay grade. At the same time, I work in an area of business that is shrinking.
