I find that she often gets facts wrong and I don't think it is intentional but seems to be more that she is glossing over or missing details that someone more acquainted with the Jaguar might actually pickup on. I don't think I'd discredit her completely over it, personally.

I totally agree, but I also don't think the Atari Jaguar should be discredited completely for clickbait views and YouTube clout, beyond the reputation the Jaguar has earned for itself.

  2. I've also said for some time that I believe there's a market for an Atari 8-Bit Computer device that could also play Atari 5200 games, as they are so similar. Envision a 4/5 scale Atari XE Game System with detachable keyboard and full support for original games and controllers. Except it would have TWO cartridge bays on the top (similar to what Retron does) - one to play Atari 8-Bit Computer cartridges, and the other to play Atari 5200 cartridges. The Atari XE design would lend itself perfectly to this.

Here's an early review of the Gamestation. A third of the games are licensed non-Atari titles from Piko Interactive.

Obviously, hardcore Atari fans have a million ways to play these games and are not the target audience for this type of product. After the excellent Atari 50 ($29.99), I have no idea what the market is for this $99 device even to casual Atari fans.

Wow. I would much rather see the 2600+ in stores at that price with those same games - Asteroids, Missile Command, Centipede, "Pong", Warlords, Breakout, Gravitar, etc. I hope Atari isn't just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, I don't want them to oversaturate the market. Because we know how that ends.

  4. If they decided to go that route, they would have to support it with games, both in terms of cartridges (Jaguar multicart?) and new releases. One major reason there is a market to support the 2600+ is because there are still so many cartridges floating around, many at reasonable prices. That's not the case with the Jaguar as it sold in minuscule numbers as compared to what the 2600 did. Also, the 2600 was so huge at the time, such an icon, that much of the public generally remembers the 2600, and they have been reminded of it every time they go to Walmart for the past 20 years and see the Flashback systems. Fewer people remember the Jaguar.

I'm happy that Atari has included the Jaguar in the Atari 50th Anniversary releases and that it has not been totally forgotten or overlooked.

I think what there might be a market for is a 4/5 scale Atari Lynx II loaded with Lynx games... along with Jaguar, 2600, 7800, you name it. The problem there is how much of the Lynx library does Atari still hold the rights to publish?

Really?  $3,038.88 with shipping?   Ask, but ye may not receive,  especially from me.

Pro-Tip: Asking Price is not the same as what the item actually sold for. Same for cars, houses, etc.

That's not to say that it won't sell at that price. I've set juicy "Buy It Now" prices on systems and they sold within a day. Most often to overseas buyers with different economic systems where these items are more scarce and eBay sellers are often unwilling to ship.

Or get a flying DeLorean!  🙂

Tried that, trust me it doesn't help.

Thinking ahead IS the time machine. Get what you can while you can and cherish it.

DeLorean guys are saying the same thing "wow I wish I would've bought one 20 years ago". I know a lot of people that would've loved to have bought a home ten years ago or two years ago. Everything is downstream from that. Cars, video games, all the "toys" that people enjoy.

OMG have you been watching prices on every retro console?

Time to invent a time machine and go back to the time. Back when people were complaining about a $30 price being too high for a broken Vectrex. Or any heavy sixer Atari 2600. Or a Virtual Boy.

Back i those times when you were telling yourself it is time to buy one.

Now try and look ahead another 10 years when every barely running, wonky controller, Vectrex will have some kind of grading applied to it.

A time when you're making another post on some future social site about the same topic.

Now do this with home prices.

    Well said, Justin! Thanks. 🙂

Everybody is welcome here, but we leave divisive conversations at the door before we come in so that we can all have fun and get along. Let's not find things to disagree on, argue about and foment negativity. Let's find shared interests to be excited about and have fun with!

    We don't discuss "WOKE" here.

We don't discuss politics or divisive issues of any kind here, period. Atari I/O is an escape from the rest of the world. Do not inject divisiveness into our community. Divisive topics and posts will be deleted without notice. Accounts that wantonly push the boundary to see what they can get away with will be placed on manual moderation with all posts held until approved.

Same goes for mopey topics that breed negativity. Atari I/O is a place to have fun.

We ask that you conduct yourself as you would a guest at a party in someone's home. A likable party guest doesn't bring negativity and drama from the outside world into somebody else's home. Likable party guests aren't negative, overtly political, divisive, critical or argumentative in an otherwise friendly setting. They don't insinuate or beg for handouts. They don't walk over to a group of people and insert themselves into a friendly conversation just to say "Subscribe my channel/podcast/website" or dictate the rules of their card game. A likable guest knows to leave politics and divisive topics at the door and doesn't push agendas or political imagery in your face as they enter your home. We set aside our differences to make new friends with shared interests, not foment divisiveness. A likable party guest is polite and thoughtful toward the other guests, treats everybody as equals, and knows how to enjoy their time at the party.
