Ballblazer (Atari 7800)

I really like Cybermorph. I had one of the very first Jaguars out of Sunnyvale and the game felt groundbreaking at the time. I felt there could have been more music and tighter fit and finish to the game, but that's to be expected from the Tramiels and I was used to that on the Lynx. Still an enjoyable game that I spent hours playing.

EXCELLENT episode, No Swear! Thank you for letting me get to be part of your podcast!

Superb review Rick. The lame-looking space ship/rocket on the left of the 8-Bit computer version didn't belong there and always bothered me.

Wow, hats off to these guys. That actually looks quite a bit better than Atari 2600, or even ColecoVision. I love that the Space Invaders clone at the beginning of the video replaces the invaders with little Gundam looking robots. That's so Japanese

I monitor our social media trends quite closely, and ever since Atari: Game Over came to the public mind on Netflix and Showtime I have seen a measurable change in how people generally approach the ET / Howard Scott Warshaw story.
This story was posted to our Facebook page the same it was posted here. Since then, our post has been shared dozens of times and has been seen by nearly 10,000 people on our Facebook page alone. More importantly, most of the ET comments, which usually trend aggressively negative, this time have been overwhelmingly positive - particularly in support of Howard and the notion that ET as the worst game ever made is preposterous.
You can see the post here: https://www.facebook.com/cx7800/posts/968124696564348
The turnaround in public opinion is astounding. There's been a noticeable shift away from unfounded hatred and cynicism, and towards a more reasonable understanding of the story, what happened, and that while not great it certainly wasn't the worst game of all time. It's wonderful to see Howard finally get the recognition he deserves, I think after 35 years that's a wonderful development in Atari's history.

You totally need to write into the 7800 GBG podcast one day! Just covered it!
I enjoyed that episode, that's what got me in the mood to play the game!

There's a new interview with Howard Scott Warshaw out this week. It's actually quite a nice interview and I wanted to share the article with you. This quote really hit home:
“But, you know, the funny thing about the whole ET situation is if I were to take two more days, and gone in and cleaned up the well thing, the falling in, and straightened out a few more things, it probably would have made it just an OK game and we probably wouldn’t be talking about it right now. It would have literally changed history in a way that would have been much less interesting to me.” --Howard Scott WarshawYou can read the full story here:

I have a new post up on the blog about Adam Savage and his love of Millipede. Adam Savage is co-host (along with Jamie Hyneman) of the Discovery Channel television series MythBusters. Adam is absolutely enthralled with Millipede, and has been ever since he first discovered the game as a teenager while working at a bar as a busboy in 1984. He recently purchased a Millipede arcade machine which he found Craigslist, which he then modified and tries to play every day. Adam plays through a few levels of Millipede and gives a good demonstration of the game in a “Show and Tell” video which you can see on the blog.

Greenween, if you plan on getting an Atari XE Computer or XEGS you may want to hang on to that game. Midnight Magic is pretty sweet..
