  1. Nice story thanks for sharing. :thumb:  In my case you are preaching to the choir  ;) I love Atari but I was a Commodore kid growing up and for me AMIGA was my platform of choice and so that is where my nostalgia and best early computing memories are. Whether playing games or dabbling in Deluxe Paint. The thing is dauber whatever system, console, platform brings you joy or nostalgia we love to hear about it. Despite the Atari name of the site we are all about retro times and experience and that means different things to different people and we are here to celebrate it all! Nobody here is going to laugh at you for being  Die Hard Amiga fan that I can promise you  B) In fact I had created THIS thread to kick off the Amiga section for stories just like yours! Keep it in mind if you continue to share your great Amiga stories and experiences (the thread could use the boost)  :spot:

  2. Sweet stuff Atari Creep! Well, I would not of thought of it but since you brought it up I guess I DO have some Atari related artwork and it was even done back in the day when Atari 2600 was still selling. Basically, me and a friend use to make our comics and though they were not very good we tried to make them as much like the real thing as possible and with that in mind here is an "advertisement" I created - SCHOOL ESCAPE for the Atari 2600

School Escape, in it you try to get my friend GORD to school without him running into any diversions, he liked to skip school LOL!

Pretty much you controlled me Gord in the game trying to make it from his house to the school while avoiding various temptations and obstacles along the way.

I do not recall all the details but you would have to run from bullies and also avoid being "sucked in" by temptations like the Comic Shop, Ice Cream store or the transit streetcar that whisked you away downtown lol. Those things would draw you in like a tractor beam and yeah truth be told such things were often excuses to skip school in "real life", we were a bad influence on each other  ;)

As a bonus years later after I scanned and uploaded the original to Facebook I used Atari online label maker to turn it into a "proper"

    2600 label.

  3. Tiny "Game Room" in Grand Hotel - Sunpeaks Resort.

    Better Late Than Never !
Last August 12 - 14- We went to Sunpeaks resort for the 7th Annual Sun Peaks Retro Concert Weekend. Upon checking in to the Grand Hotel  did my usual walking around and discovered this quiet and empty little arcade so I just had to do this quick video. I had forgotten all about it as I tend to do once we return from a trip and the excitement wears off. But I was just going through my playlist of various arcades I had filmed when it popped into my head "Hey wait a second, did I ever upload the little Game Room I discovered that weekend at Sunpeaks?" WELL NO I NEVER DID so here it is.

  5. How cool as that!

Thanks much appreciated. One thing I love about this forum is the special vibe and feeling of "community" no other site gives me.

With that I would like to show THESE videos I just came across and want to share, now I did NOT create this particular video but it is by a user Daniel Bienvenu aka Newcoleco a amazing ColecoVision Homebrew programmer. We do not communicate much these days but back when I started on Youtube and he was more active on youtube and forums in general he often shouted me out, I reviewed one of his games and we would shout each other out back and forth. He certainly made some surprise videos that always amazed me he took the time to do just as a favour to me.

Flashback 2009, my favourite times on Youtube and back when it felt more like a "community" making friends etc. I was even part of Newcoleco's "Memorable Youtube Moments of 2009", this was early on before I had many subscribers yet people who appreciated my humble videos reached out.

!!!!! NOTE THE VIDEO DOES NOT ALLOW EMBEDDING SO ONCE YOU CLICK IT YOU WILL SEE THE OPTION TO WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In THIS one he created an ANIMATION from my Tag Response Blooper Video (The phone rang to deliver a package as I was filming) to me this was one of the nicest and collect things a fellow youtuber ever created for me. He spent 10 hours on it! Notice the Colecovision to the right and the "phone" I pick up is the controller.

  6. So...anybody have a ROM for Santa Simon??? AA doesn't carry one, and the guy who developed it never published one. Couldn't find it on any ROM sites I could find. I'd love to actually buy the game, but it's been out of print for ten years. :(

If AA does not host the ROM likely the publisher simply never made one available so short of scoring a cart on Ebay for a crazy mark up you are probably out of luck. As it states on AA "Santa Simon was only available in cartridge form for a limited time in the AtariAge Store during our 2006 holiday sale." Sadly not all homebrew publisher choose to make just a ROM available.

  7. That's crazy man. I totally dislike pacman these days, too hard and I *still* suck at dot-eater games, but wanted one of those when I was a kid.

It's also great to see that VFD displays seem to have great longevity even if they can develop wear over time. I consider them close cousins to crt phosphors because they rely on cathode emission. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_fluorescent_display

I love Vacuum fluorescent display! From clock radios and early watches and calculators to of course a variety of early handheld and portable video games it certainly stands out! I found it interesting how they manged to make playable and fun games within the limitations of the VFD technology. My understanding though is the tech was more difficult and costly to produce which is why it was later replaced with LCD. They were certainly interesting for their time though and the bright and vibrant color is what really attracted me.

  8. Coolest video ever! GREAT find Rob! That's just incredible! I always thought one day you'd find some cool power strips in the recycling or something, but it's amazing that you found something this awesome of a retro gaming collectable!

Does video exist of your walk out to the recycling bins and making your big discovery?

Sadly, no I did not have my camera with me, both  old and new don't hold the charge they once did and I do not always have them plugged in and ready as I mentioned I literally checked it as an after thought. I did make a video yesterday when I first came up stairs etc, but it was using my older camera (and by good I mean well at least better than my other one  ) but after I calmed down and re-watched it today I thought it better to just do over. This video was better for sure though I admit my attempt to power it up and my disappointment when it did not work initially might have been entertaining. But yeah, I was certainly surprised, the majority of residence here are 50+ so I find a lot of weird things but thinking now we might have (or had :() someone more like me here somewhere ?  I am certainly convinced to try and ave a peek in more often. For all my little gadgets and accessories I been finding perfectly good AA and AAA batteries! Even rechargeable, enough to keep things going without me having to pick any up, also universal remotes, I will never need another!

  9. Heh well we already had our Canadian Thanksgiving but still, I am thankful for this site for the awesome supportive people, for the type of community that is different from others as far as the whole feeling and general vibe we have here. Thankful to have a place where we can all appreciate and discuss whatever classic gaming or computing platform that we grew up with or have nostalgia for without it sinking into "platform wars" or which console or computer was "better" endlessly that seems to happen in every other group or forums that are into our hobby. Thankful for the people who took a chance to check us out and stuck around long enough to "get" what sets us apart  ;) lastly very thankful I met Justin and finally decided to become part of the team here, I do not admin or moderate any other place (well besides some Facebook groups I created) but I am glad took a chance to be a moderator here and have no regrets.  :spot:

  10. I have the Reys 128gb arcade attract front end on my raspberry Pi3 and all I can say is wow!! , it a replica of the hyperspin frontend with full video preview and matched game logos from all console and arcade platform , something like 8,000 to 10,000 games here, it's ridiculous but take about 2 hrs to mount the image, I have to say all you'd need is to connect this to a a set of arcade sticks and wacka it into a cab for a full retro gaming arcade suite, would save a fortune on a PC arcade setup.

You should do a video on it? Would love to see in action.

  11. I know it is a rare pretty much failed console. Oddly, there is actually a flashcart for it!

Here is a video (not mine) DESCRIPTION

    "Published on Mar 3, 2016

The unsucessful console Amstrad GX4000 gets a new life with the new flashcart C4CPC. With it, not only You can run the few games released for this obscure console but you can run homebrew games and especially you can run CPC games (both 464 and 6128) converted for it. Note that nowadays is difficult to buy games for this console because they are not common and usually they are expensive."
