I am still trying to finish NES "Legend of Zelda", and I've made it to this second dungeon boss. That's all I can do for today though.

3 dungeons completed and I have the raft now. I do not remember how many dungeons there are. 9? I was hoping to get further along this holiday weekend, but I got busy with other things...
-
Oh good! Thanks for that info.
I'm trying to do this the old fashioned way...with a map and no hints. I remember a lot of stuff from back in the day, but it's been fun finding where everything is. My only conceit is using an emulator that allows me to save wherever I want so I can stop when something in real life comes up.

What would be cool is if O'Reilly actually stocked the replicas so you could complete your order. I remember this going around like 5 years ago and thinking you could actually order a replica and being disappointed when you couldn't. I'm sure they'd sell plenty.

Also, having been collecting Atari since 1993 I was used to hunting down and collecting NOS / MIB games still sealed. I usually got these at Kay-Bee Toys, Sears Outlet, @Video 61 or ordering from Atari directly. Lynx games came from Toys R Us and Babbage's. I treated games the same way I did baseball cards, I'd always try to buy TWO of everything, if not three. One new one to open, one new one to put away and keep sealed. If I bought a third, that would always be to put away sealed to save for a potential trade someday in the future. I'm still that way. I DO open brand new Atari games if it's the first in my collection and I'm going to be playing it for the rest of my life. Once I have duplicates, I ENJOY having them sit on the shelf. I love pulling them out and looking at them, looking at the box, looking through catalogs, appreciating the artwork and feeling the original retail experience that we used to feel buying these games. And of course I put a few away for future giveaways. This works for me and this is the approach that brings me happiness. Whatever makes you HAPPY is what I recommend, other people's ideas of what you should be doing don't really matter as long as you love what you're doing and enjoy your collection to the max.
-
Right on, brother.
I got these sets for a song on ebay and let them sit in the garage for a week while I thought about it. This little shelf is right above my main desk. Now that I work from home, I look at it every day. Seeing these little ships will bring happiness for sure.

I've decided to try replaying the original NES "Legend of Zelda". I don't think I ever finished the game, and it's been 30+ years since I've tried it.

Absolutely better. Good resolution and you get the full 2+ hour movie. On the downside, there is no novelty "Rick Roll" movie on PSP (that I know of).
-
Cool, you grabbed Michael T's bundle 👍 The price was great, and I was tempted because of some of the movies in the bundle, but I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of UMD movie collecting. I already have my hands full with blu-ray, DVD etc.
PSP really was an entertainment powerhouse, but for whatever reason, Sony handhelds never remotely come near the success of Nintendo handhelds.
-
Yes. I'm actually shocked no one else grabbed that bundle!
I have a pretty nice PSP collection. The PSP is a lot more advanced than the Nintendo DS. Yet I still love the DS more. Why? Probably because the library is more accessible and large.
I normally take the PSP with me on plane trips with a few movies to watch. But this last time, since we hadn't flown in so long, I just minimized. Our plane ended up having a pretty good selection on seatback screens, so I just watched a bunch of TV shows and was happy. I started to watch that movie "The Joker", but it was so depressing, I turned it off.

How'd you like the game, Rick?
I literally dusted off the PSP and DSi a few days ago. I had to buy a new battery for the PSP, but otherwise, everything works. I picked up a bunch of DS and PSP games recently. I don't know why, but Sony's recent announcement about the closure of the PS3 and Vita e-shops motivated me to reconnect with my old handhelds (which I rarely used to begin with).
The DSi belonged to my older son, but he never used it and was content with his DS Lite (which he keeps on his desk to this day).

It's fantastic. It's as good as game #1 in the series (I think there are 3?) But I haven't made it very far yet.

I'm still playing and still enjoying it. It's more than just "mindless". Some of the puzzles are kind of clever.

The only special feature is that it plays the Pac Man theme as the alarm. No game built in. Still, it looks sharp, and it's special because son #2 got it for me.
I had no idea this existed.
-
It fits nicely. The Pac-Man theme can be played by pushing the upper right button. It's best described as "irritating". I can use that to annoy others. A+

Best wishes to those in Florida that may be impacted by the upcoming Idalia. 🤞

It's starting to come down pretty hard right now. We're getting the outer bands of it as it approaches shore, which shouldn't hit us until morning. This won't be a direct hit for us unless it moves lower but we'll still get hit with some of it. I think @TrekMD and everybody on that side should be okay 🙂

How about a twist plot for a new version of the Twilight Zone classic "Time Enough At Last": A nerd survives a nuclear blast by living in his parents' basement. As the sole survivor, he finally is able to find and collect ALL of the retro games and systems. As he finally sits down to start playing, the power finally cuts out!
On the bright side, he can get some solar panels or a generator.- Show previous comments 2 more

Yep. I think he's in a total of 3 different TZ episodes, and Shatner is in 2.

Whoops...4! He's in 4 episodes.

That's true. The sad part is how a lot of companies put out some really great games right before or after the crash but got overlooked by all the crap that had saturated the market.

Atari.io as confessional. Forgive me for I have sinned. Yesterday, I "sniped" an ebay auction. I did it for two reasons:
- I knew I'd forget. This auction ended during work hours. No matter how much I would tell myself "check e-bay at 4pm", I knew I'd forget. Indeed, when I got notice that I'd won, I was totally surprised. I DID forget.
- How many of this particular item did I lose in the past? Probably two dozen by the minimum amount over my max bid.
Anyway, I won't do it often, but I can't say I'll never snipe again.

There was a prototype leaked a couple years ago for "Pete Best Western", a hotel management simulator on the Magnavox Odyssey 2. It even used The Voice to make snarky remarks about being kicked out of the band before they got big.

Interesting game mechanics and quite a challenge to avoid fire top and bottom! I also like the enemy sprites. Not bad at all!
-
That's what I thought too! It's really hard to focus on top and bottom, but I feel like with some time and effort, I could get a lot better at it. Isn't that the mark of a great game?
-
Well, guys...I made it to the big 5-0! Hard to believe. I don't feel that old. I think video games have kept me young.
-
I gotta tell you: the pending demise of Toys R Us is depressing. Times change. Brick and mortar retail seems to be dying.

I was the cage guy lol. It was actually called the cage too. Sometimes the "security cage". I have some pictures from back then, I should probably find them and post them in the forums.

YASS! You should.

Well, I admit that it will be sad to see TRU go and it was sad to hear the passing of TRU's original founder. However, there appears to be some light on the horizon.
It seems that with TRU going away the original founder of KB Toys is going to start again. So we may be losing TRU but might be gaining back KB Toys. Our country keeps getting worse and worse for the stores that have been around for a very long time.
K-Mart is pretty much gone, Sears is not too far...

One of my kids just said he learned to swear from AVGN! Ha ha ha!

Heh heh. Reminds me of my family's first experience with AVGN. Back when my brother and I were first being introduced to the Internet as pre-teens, my brother looked up Spider-Man on YouTube, and was watching a bunch of random videos that popped up from the search. Eventually, he ended up clicking on the AVGN Spider-Man theme song parody, and Mom walked into the room right as it began to play. She was very upset about it, because there were some words in it that my brother and I had never...
-
(continued) heard before. That's how learned how to be careful what we did online.
Years later, when I was in high school, I discovered AVGN (I didn't know at the time that it was where that song came from), and got a lot of laughs from watching his videos. Then one day, I watched his Spider-Man review, and that song came on at the end, and I was like, "Holy cow! This is that song!" That was a pretty funny moment.

How awful. Poor little thing.

Oh man, I apologize.
There's a youtube channel called "Hoovie's Garage". It's a guy that buys cars and talks about them and fixes them, etc. Anyhoo, he bought a Ferrari, and it ended up completely burning to the ground due to a badly placed hose clamp! Very sad, but he took it well. Hoovie also has a DeLorean that took a ton of time and money to get fixed.
