What would your Top 5 and Bottom 5 be?

    "VHS List" Must Watch Episodes:

    • Yesterday's Enterprise (should've been the Generations movie)
    • The Inner Light
    • Best of Both Worlds (Parts 1 and 2)
    • Chain of Command
    • All Good Things
    • Honorary Mention: Darmok

    "Skip List" Bottom 5 Episodes:

    • Cost of Living
    • Angel One
    • Sub Rosa
    • Code of Honor
    • (Any "Risa" episode)
  2. Let's get started with a score! This was my first attempt and I'm pretty happy with how it went, I got all the way to Venom but that last boss handed it to me.

    My High Score: 47,100

:pow: Your score is displayed at the end of each round. You'll want to take a photo of your score before you begin the next leg of your journey because a final score is not displayed at the end of the game when you lose your last life.

Lot's of retro goodness and wonderfully displayed as well. 😎

Thanks Rob! I like how this works. I have one more shelf that can go in there, I'm considering sandwiching in a TurboGrafx-16 or PC Engine very tightly between the two shelves, just enough so that you can insert a HuCard from the front and turn it on. I already have a TurboDuo set up in the other room though so it would be a bit redundant unless a guest was sleeping over. Really happy with the way this set up came out, thinking I won't mess with it but it's hard to feel like it's "done".

    Well dad-blast-it.  I've got a Retron 3, and you're right...it DOESN'T WORK!

Oh well, I'll have to try emulation I guess.

:pow: For anyone running into trouble with Retron systems, remember it's okay to play Star Fox on an SNES Mini console, Nintendo Switch Online, any viable form of emulation, etc. All of those scores are able to be submitted to the Squad Challenge.

    Star Fox
    Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Controller: CONTROL PAD / KEYBOARD / PLAYER'S CHOICE
Difficulty Level: Default (Push Start to Play)
Play on: Real Hardware / Dedicated Console / MAME / Emulation OK! ✔
Squad Challenge ends 11:59 pm PST August 14, 2020

    Objective

Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or YouTube video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between August 1st through August 14th, 2020. Screen captures are not allowed as they are more easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the competition is the victor!

    Eligibility

Anyone can join in. All players are welcome!

    Play Rules

Games may be played on real hardware, Flashback / Mini console, or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following all rules and game settings defined in the challenge. Choosing between real hardware or emulation, and choosing which controller to play on is part of formulating your strategy. What works best to your advantage? Choose your weapon of choice! Enhancements, rewinds and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

    Difficulty Level

Default (Push Start to Play). There are no difficulty settings in Star Fox. However, you can select from four controller configurations, as well as select from three different courses on your journey through the Lylat System. Course One is less difficult than Course Two and Three. You are free to select any controller configuration and course that you wish!

    The Big Tip Off!

When you first begin this Squad Challenge, play a few practice rounds sampling different courses and controller configurations to see which one works best for you. Play the game any way you'd like, the idea is to score as many points as possible!

    Fair Play

Your integrity is everything. Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that we will not allow cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, rewinds, deceitful photo manipulation, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage. Everybody hates a cheater.

Welcome to our 85th Squad Challenge! We're playing Star Fox on Super Nintendo, which in my opinion is a must-have game for the system! Star Fox introduced us to the Super FX chip and its 3-D world of nefarious polygons. Early Atari Jaguar games like Cybermorph and Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy often get compared to Star Fox. How does Star Fox with its gameplay, storyline and characters  stack up in your opinion? Let's talk about it in the thread! PDF Instructions are provided below. Good luck to everybody participating!

NOTE: Our next Squad Challenge will be the Atari 7800 2020 Pole Position II Grand Prix!

I want some of those lights.  I've got shelves to light up LOL.  Red for 2600, blue for 5200, purple for 7800, orange for NES, yea...I'm seeing all kinds of ideas.

They were $5 and came with a remote control. Taking the time to set them up just right and give everything a great presentation made all the difference in the world 🙂

    That is a wicked set-up @Justin! Major retro-design flex! 💪🕹️

Haha THANKS GUYS!! I'm thinking of lighting the upper portion of the TV stand, and maybe adding one more system in there. Also thinking about switching out the Sega Master System II for the original unit but it would be a tight fit. If anything changes substantially I'l post updated photos.

  9. :pole_position_blimp_big: Congratulations RickR!

  10. 📺 Formally setting up my Sony Trinitron TV stand with my 8-Bit systems at the new house. Atari 2600/7800, Nintendo Entertainment System, and Sega Master System are all here with room for an additional system or two. Lighting is controlled remotely using an LED light strip kit from Five Below. Game Systems connect to a 4-Channel Audio/Video RCA Switch using premium industrial-grade gold RCA cables. These are my original systems from growing up, running on my original Sony Trinitron and Sony TV Stand from the 1990s. Everything here I bought new. These things mean a lot to me and I try to keep them nice and enjoy them often.

Systems from the 16-Bit, 64-Bit, and modern era systems are set up in my credenza under the TV in the living room. They are all running on a modern HD flatscreen Trinitron. Those systems include TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine / TurboDuo, Atari Jaguar, Super Famicom/SNES, Sega Genesis, Neo-Geo and others are in the living room running on the modern flatscreen Trinitron.  Those systems can hold their own on a modern TV, but older 8-Bit systems come to life on the classic tube TVs they were designed for. Those scan lines burning through the warm phosphorescent glow of the TV screen, it's an experience.

I hope you like my setup and enjoy the photos!

  13. WELCOME TO ATARI I/O @LinkYoungPS‼️ It's great to have you in the Forums! Everybody here is friendly and welcoming, it's like a little down filled with people who really love all this retro goodness and I know you'll have a good time. Excited to have you join in some high score contests! Tonight we're wrapping up TWO high score contests, one for MOON PATROL and the other for ULTIMATE YARS', both on Atari 2600. If you need anything or have any questions I'm always around to help out. Best wishes! :wreck-it-ralph:

  14. Just joined the 40,000 points club! This game is brutal. Made it all the way through the first course without losing any lives, then get snagged up on those laser tanks on the first leg of the second course. It's hard to jump over the craters and land in time to be able to shoot down their laser blast. 40,000 points was my goal, let's see if I can do better!

    My High Score: 40,400
