Welcome to our 86th Squad Challenge, the 2020 Pole Position II Grand Prix! This will be our 3rd Annual Pole Position II Grand Prix Event! This year's Grand Prix challenge will run until August 31st, 2020 racing the SEASIDE Track for your best possible score! Pole Position is one of the most iconic arcade games released by Atari and was genre-defining for its time, setting a new standard of what racing gameplay could be like. Pole Position II was included as the pack-in title for the Atari 7800 and is often revered as the first game 7800 owners played on their new game system. For many of us 7800 gamers, Pole Position II was the first video game we ever owned! I have so many wonderful memories of playing Pole Position II at Chuck E. Cheese's with my family, shifting gears and whipping around corners with a cheese stick in my hand and a cup of root beer on the floor under my feet. It also became one of my favorite games to play at home and remains a wonderful memory on the Atari 7800. ROM and Instruction Manual are provided below. Good luck to our Qualifying Racers!

NOTE: Another great Squad Challenge is coming up soon!

  3. :pole_position_blimp_big: Congratulations Everybody!

Congratulations everybody!! I hope it was fun for everyone to mix things up with an interesting SNES game. Star Fox has always fascinated me, the game felt like a glimpse at the future when it first came out, and a promise of big things to come. Yet it seems like Star Fox is one of Nintendo's least utilized mascots. I wonder why that is? I claimed the top spot in this Challenge, reaching the end of the game and knocking out Andross, the final boss, with 55,700 points. @kamakazi20012 knocked it out of the park and almost made it to the end, scoring 47,000 to take 2nd Place. Awesome! @RadioPoultry followed suit, claiming the 3rd Place spot with 36,400 points! @RickR scored very close to Radio Poultry reaching 34,800 points to take spot number 4. @MaliciousCarp joined the fight to defend Corneria, scoring 28,900 points and the 5th Place spot on our board. @Gianna is a Star Fox newbie and was very proud to make it through the challenging first level and defeat the boss to score 7,600 Points and a place on our Scoreboard. Welcome to our new friend @MaliciousCarp and congratulations to everyone who joined in this Squad Challenge and checked out one of Nintendo's coolest games of 1993! As always I always encourage others to do, I am going to share my high score on the Scoreboard, and let's make sure this Challenge continues on!

NOTE: Our next High Score Squad Challenge will be our 2020 Pole Position II Grand Prix! Be there!

  4. Tele-Games was a Sears "Private Label." This was far more common in the age of Department Stores. They always wanted an exclusive. You still see this today in some forms, for example if you shop in the Men's Department at Dillard's you will find a lot of clothes from Roundtree & Yorke, which is a Dillard's exclusive Private Label. Other manufacturers produce these clothes per Dillard's request so they have exclusive items to offer. The PONG and Atari 2600 deals were more or less the same thing, although there were only a few exclusive games released. I used to work with the gentleman who negotiated much of the Sears deal for the 2600 so I've had the privilege of hearing the backstory first hand a number of times. It's just business. Simply put, Atari existed as a maker of video games that you could play at home because Sears believed in them and was willing to help them out in the beginning with PONG, followed by the launch of the Atari 2600. This included getting Atari products into the Sears Catalog in time for Christmas, distribution, manufacturing, and introducing Atari to Sears' bank to provide the sorts of loans they would need to get PONG off the assembly line. This extended into the lifespan of the Atari 2600, and almost the Atari 5200 which nearly had a Sears Tele-Games release as well. In return for Sears assistance, they wanted to offer their own exclusive line of video games produced by Atari for Sears. It may seem strange to imagine this now but this was common at the time even with TVs and especially appliances such as Whirlpool which was another Sears Private Label brand.

  5. WELCOME to the forums @socrates63‼️ It's great to have you here, the legendary @nosweargamer has introduced a lot of wonderful people to Atari I/O. Thank you for sharing your Atari history with us, it sounds like the past year has been an adventurous one, it's fantastic that you have access to 2600, 5200 and 7800 now. We have a warm, welcoming community here, everybody is very nice and engaging, like a small town. If you have any questions or need anything feel free to PM me whenever, I'm always around to help. Best wishes!

  6. Okay guys this is the score to beat. I beat Star Fox tonight and I did it on one life. I haven't played Star Fox in a few years, I don't consider myself a "Star Fox master" but I was in the mood to play this game and it's been a lot of fun. I've really enjoyed the past few Squad Challenges we've done. I hope you have too!

    My Final Score: 55,700

At the end it also gave me an average score of 92%

I just thought of an episode that deserves to be up there:  The Measure of a Man.

Yes I agree! I really wanted to include that in my Top 5. I wish it could've been a Top 20!

Another excellent episode is Tapestry, where Q puts Picard in a situation to make different decisions as a young man, only to find they result in Picard leading a boring, bland life.
