Sorry to hear that. Did your CIB come with a black and white copy of the manual? There are several threads on AtariAge where members discussed buying brand new copies of the game, with no overlays and a black & white manual. There used to be a thread where a member had provided copies of the overlays in the correct size. All you had to do was print them out and have them laminated, but I'm unable to find that thread. Below are what should have come in your CIB.

Mine has everything like yours less the two console overlays.

The 1200XL has been on my "want" list for a long time, but it would definitely be only for a show piece.  There are some compatibility issues and video output is missing one pin...everything is fixable with some updates/mods.  It *is* sexy!  Also, they are spendy since there aren't a lot of them out there...it was produced for less than a year.

The sweet spot for the 8-bit series is going to be the 800XL.  It works with almost everything out of the box.  And they made millions of them.

Interesting tidbits...notice those 45 degree joystick ports?  You'll note the XEGS has the exact same orientation in the same place, indicating Atari may have used the 1200XL board design for that system.  It looks cool, but in actual use, it is super awkward to plug/unplug controllers.

@OniDensetsu, your 800 is awesome and it looks to be in great shape.  It's also a great choice for 8-bit computing.  Built like a tank.

I picked up three new games this week, all new in the box in good condition:

  • Pete Rose Baseball (Atari 2600)
  • Cookie Monster Munch (Atari 2600)
  • E.T. Phone Home (Atari 8-Bit Computers)

Let's take a look at the pickups!

Pete Rose Baseball is a really nice looking (the best looking?) Baseball game for Atari 2600. It's an Absolute release and has a copyright date of 1988. It was programmed by Alex DeMeo who also did Title Match Pro Wrestling for Atari 2600.

Cookie Monster Munch is one of the original Kids Controller games designed as a collaboration between Atari and Children's Television Workshop (Sesame Workshop). I have two brand new Kids Controllers put away, and I picked up this game not just because they are becoming harder to find - but because I had always wanted my future kids to be able to play the Kids Controller Sesame Street games as some of their very first video games. I think a 2 year old would still appreciate Cookie Monster even in 2600 mode 🙂

Cookie Monster Munch is an educational game designed for children Ages 3-7 to help learn numbers and how to count by helping Cookie Monster catch and eat cookies. Alternate artwork is shown in Tim Lapetino's book "Art of Atari" page 212 showing the names "Cookie Monster's Garden" and "Cookie Monster Maze".

Another interesting note about the Sesame Street Kids Controller games packaging is that they have always been very difficult to find in "perfect" boxes. These were made at a time when most Atari 2600 video games were displayed in stores on open shelves, as opposed to behind a sliding glass door. Games sat on store shelves at K-Mart, Sears, Kay-Bee and elsewhere, and anyone could walk up, pick up the game and walk around with it before putting it back where they would all get crunched together. Sesame Street games with Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Ernie and others were prone to being handled by excited children and made crunchy before mom told them to "put it back", so to find any Kids Controller games in a decent box is a challenge.

I love the CCW games. I even had carts made for the Monstercise and Peek-A-Boo prototypes.

Oh yes.  I even had had same day shipping!  I believe they have a warehouse in this area and that is why that happens sometimes.  🙂  How do you like the book, @sramirez2008?

It’s not bad, but he could have added a little more detail to a couple games, like mentioning that Champ Games Galagon has a co-op play option.

First time out thrifting in a long while and I found some decent pickups!  Two orig xbox games ($2.50 each) and a nice Logitech wireless mouse WITH THE DONGLE INSIDE! ($5).

I know it isn't retro-game related, and I'm sorry about that.  But I'm excited to report the mouse also connects via Bluetooth.  I like it and have been using this on my new main PC.  Since it is a mini-PC, this means I get a USB port back if I use the in bluetooth mode.  The PC only has six USB ports (my old big desktop had 12).

Another couple recent pickups!  I ended up parting with more money than usual for one of these, here - I'm sure y'all know which one 😄.  After participating in the Alien Abduction VCS Club Squad Challenge, I took a liking to the game style and found myself wanting more.  I don't have any history with HERO, but I'm excited to give it a shot!

NICE!  H.E.R.O. is a great game and plays great on the 2600.  Enjoy.

I don't have a boxed HERO, but I do have a boxed Casino.  I think was one of the first boxed games I found (at Salvation Army) when I first started collecting in the early 2000's.

It has arrived! I can’t wait to play Stramash Zone with this baby.

*** Shout-out to https://tenpencearcade.co.uk/controllers-for-sale/ for this wonderful controller. I also have his Asteroids controller and can't say enough about the build quality of these his controllers and how well they work. They really provide that arcade like experience. You can buy with confidence.
