  1. That's big news @btbfilms76, Can't believe it's already time to move on, I feel like that lounge is still new. It feels like home, it's definitely served your show well. Really looking forward to the next chapter and seeing what you build next. So much of your show is that certain tone, a nice vibe in a cool place to hang out. I hope you keep that hazy neon purple glow going on in the background. Good luck with your move!

    The Greatest American Hero...

I still remember the episode shown in the intro where he just appears in the car.  See, if you haven't seen it, the lead character is a history teacher who is given a super suit by aliens.  But he loses the instructions, so he never knows exactly how it works.  One of the running gags was that he figured out how to fly, but not how to land.  So every landing was a crash landing.  Anyway, in that episode, he discovered that he could become invisible with the suit, but he didn't know how to turn it on or off.  So the whole episode has him randomly popping in and out.  With, of course, him trying to sneak around while invisible and hoping he doesn't suddenly become visible...

Hey I've got another call coming in

But... didn't the Atari 5200 originally come with 4 joystick ports?  I mean, it had other issues, but the N64 wasn't the first console with 4 ports...  (and the 5200 might not even be the first, but I know it's earlier than the N64...)

Typical for Atari to get overlooked for their innovations in favor of other companies. Don't forget that video games began with the NES after all.

I don't doubt that they all sold at all, Justin. People are desperate for a collector's item, even an Atari Jaguar or two. I hope that these folks had the money to pay it. Paying $1,600.00 a Jag is expensive for sure.

I was keeping an eye on them out of curiosity. The timing of the $1,600 Jags coincidentally corresponds with the stimulus check payouts. Prior to the stimulus checks being deposited only one had sold despite the auction having been up for a few weeks. Within a week or two of the first stimulus checks being deposited all the $1,600 Jags were snatched up. Interesting.

LOL, I think you may be right. 🙂 I know I wouldn't have bought it. Hahaha!! 3 years ago roughly?

That would've been 2014 when the forums were new, so about 6 years ago. The more I look at it the more I remember trying to clean that label and it was too far gone. I don't remember if I gave it away as a prize in Wednesday Night Chat or if I gave it to The Professor to give away, I know we did a few 2600 Mario Bros. giveaways. Great to see it ended up in good hands and is being used! :nintendo_mario_sidestepper:

It's not pretty, but it does play. Absolutely one of my favorite arcade games. I've never really spent any time on this version. Let's rock!

Did we send that to you @greenween? I swear we had a 2600 Mario Bros. one where the label was so far gone and so badly stained I felt bad about giving it away in the chat. I might have to ask Professor about this, that looks so familiar.

  7. WELCOME AGAIN @BlackCatz40‼️ You've been in the forums since 2014, since almost the very beginning! You're a terrific part of our community and we're so fortunate to have you here. Is your reintroduction a signal that you're becoming more active? Message

Welcome to our 79th Squad Challenge! We're going back to the beginning of Mario & Luigi's adventure together with Mario Bros. on the Atari 2600! For many people this served as their introduction to the world of Mario and was the first time anybody had heard "Mario Bros." before. Mario Bros. is one of the few games that features two-player simultaneous cooperative play. This means that you and a friend can play together as a team at the same time, which was considered a big deal for the 2600. Amazingly almost all the features from the arcade were preserved in the 2600 version making it one of the more impressive games on the Atari 2600. Game and PDF Instructions are provided below. It's time to kick back, relax, and knock over some shells with that :pow: button! I hope you guys are ready for a new season of High Score Squad and good luck to everybody participating!

NOTE: Another great Squad Challenge is coming up soon! Expect to play on a game system other than the Atari 2600 next time Thanks for playing, and enjoy!

  9. :pole_position_blimp_big: Congratulations Scott Stilphen!

Congratulations @Scott Stilphen! Your Super Breakout score took top placement in our Final Standings! In my opinion games like Super Breakout really shine on the 2600. It was designed to do Tank (Combat) and Pong, and everything else that came out for it was seeing what else the system could do. I thought Super Breakout played like a dream. I was fortunate to be playing with a fresh set of Paddles on original hardware, everything was smooth and I love that analog feel. Some of these early 2600 games are my favorite, they get down to the root of "easy to learn hard to master" games that made Atari so successful.

I thought this Squad Challenge was particularly fun, and I was thrilled to see so many people participate. I made a mistake in setting the challenge to end at 11:59 PM PST on the 15th instead of the 14th, new Squad Challenges are always posted on the 1st and 15th of every month and it will continue that way. It should be noted that AtariLBC posted a nice starter score of 888 points, but poor guy, his brittle paddle knobs gave out as he was trying to improve his score. I’m sure we all would’ve loved to see how far Atari LBC could’ve gotten with a fresh set of paddles!

Congratulations again to Scott who clenched the top spot at the very end with a 1st Place score of 4,227 points! @chas10e claims 2nd with 3,369 points, and @greenween takes 3rd with 3,041. @RickR, myself, @RadioPoultry and @Gianna all came in very close to each other, and @Kid A @kamakazi20012 @atarilbc @TrekMD and Ms. Greenween all joined in on this one with their best scores, hopefully having fun in the Squad Challenge too! Congratulations to Scott for an exciting run, and to everyone who joined in this Squad Challenge and shared a score! I'd like to encourage Scitt to post his new high score on the Scoreboard, and let's make sure this Challenge continues on!

NOTE: Our next High Score Squad Challenge will be an Atari 2600 challenge. Be there!

One thing I found that helps me is to not focus on the bricks, but to watch  the bottom half of the screen. 🙂

I completely agree! I found myself most often playing at night, on a 1990's Sony Trinitron that is great for playing these games on original hardware. There's something about the warm glow of the phosphorescence of the screen and the scan-lines, the ball leaves a trail behind it in the dark like a shooting star. It's most noticeable when playing in the dark. That trail really helps point the direction of the ball and where to catch it.

Today is the last day!  I tried to play after work yesterday, but was too tired and couldn't make it past 1,700.  I'll try again after work today.  Good luck, all!

:pow: WOW I made a mistake! Squad Challenges usually end at 11:59 PM on the night of the 14th. Looks like I screwed this one up by a day! I came in here just now to tally up scores and get the new challenge posted. Looks like we get an extra day of Super Breakout! Good luck to everyone playing!

Our next Squad Challenge will be posted either late tonight or sometime tomorrow.
